The caster must succeed on a ranged touch attack. :D! What do you all think? Good for a comedic campaign? |
| Orenmir10-22-07, 11:37 PM | I remember hearing this skit way back in the 80s and cracking up. You gotta remind me who it was, what show, etc. Anyway.... You should somehow have the target fall prone. That's too powerful by itself; maybe take out the damage or make them save. I think I remember in the skit, everyone falling unconscious or dead from a "boot to the head." Ahhh, funny stuff. |
| Orenmir10-23-07, 12:00 AM | So, I just did some googling and found 2 different "Boot to the Head" skits. This is the one I remember: http://beagleweb.com/personal/Frantics-Tae-Kwon-Leep-64k.mp3 This is the one you might be refering to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5kGUW6M7W0 Mine seems more like a Monk ability, so you should probably ignore my orignal advice. I think your spell should have some sort of "surprise" element: Can always be used [once per day per level] before initiative is rolled. Can automatically be used as a surprise round when engaged in conversation with target. |
| DM-Scott10-23-07, 12:19 AM | How about this? :D Boot to the Head Conjuration Level: Wiz/Sorc 0, Cleric 0, Bard 0, Druid 0, Components: V Casting Time: 1 Standard or Immediate Action Range: Short (25 + 5ft / level) Target: 1 creature or object Duration: Instantanious Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Ranged touch attack for 1d4 bludgeoning damage. Can be cast as a standard action, or as an immediate action once per round (with the usual limit of 1 immediate action per round). Effects that prevent or reduce damage from bludgeoning weapons (such as DR 5/silver) also reduce bludgeoning damage from this spell. ---- Why? Well, it makes it different. The fact it's bludgeoning fits with the idea of a boot to the head. The fact it's usable as an immediate action makes it kind of fun to do by complete surprise ("I cast - "Boot to the Head!" - Ooph!"). Better than ray of frost? Maybe, but fun. Also even a tiny bit of damage reduction can stop it completely, unless meta-magic can up it a bit. :) |
| Disciple_of_Salsa10-23-07, 12:38 AM | Metamagic. Hmm... Think of all the fun we could have with a metamagiced boot. Empowered Maximized Boot to the Head! Silently! Stilled! They just get kicked in the head, really hard, and the have no idea why. |
| Disciple_of_Salsa10-23-07, 12:45 AM | It's like bigby all over again!!! I think we should pimp your boot and make some variants to it! Maybe a higher level version that knocks them prone, and a boot of death, and a 9th level uber boot. |
| Aleolus10-23-07, 01:14 PM | Well, here's where I got the idea from. Not sure how long the link will last, but it's funny, and if anyone knows where the original posting of this Flash is, please post it! Boot to the Head (http://img.7chan.org/fl/src/BootToTheHead.swf). Anyways, I like the idea of it rendering the person prone, but there should be a save against that, though not for the damage. Maybe we could make a new series of Boot spells, each improving on the others! |
| jaelis10-23-07, 01:30 PM | The standard action version is reasonable. The immediate action one _might_ be OK as a 1st level spell, but certainly not as a cantrip. Don't forget, this could be used to deliver a sneak attack, and also to interrupt a spell caster. Having that available as an immediate action would be really pretty strong. |
| Grumman10-23-07, 02:13 PM | I didn't find it to be funny. In my mind, it is far better to use mundane abilities for funny purposes than to use a "funny" ability for mundane purposes. |
| Tectorman10-23-07, 02:24 PM | Furthermore, if you have a Wand of Boot to the Head, then you could do a Blankman build. ... Ye-a-a-a-ahh. |
