| joseccb09-27-06, 02:42 PM | What would be the pricing of a pair of Boots that let you use "Hustle" (XPH) 3/day??? |
| Thiez09-27-06, 02:49 PM | :D Standard action to activate? They would cost 3 sp and 8 cp, that's the price for the boots. ^^ |
| Grand Theft Otto09-27-06, 06:19 PM | What would be the pricing of a pair of Boots that let you use "Hustle" (XPH) 3/day??? Same price as a wand. The DMG suggests and item with a daily limit is priced as though it had 50 charges. So it would be market price of 11250gp (power level 3 x minimum manifester level of 5 x 750) if a psion made them (5625gp to create). If a psychic warrior made em it would drop to 6000 market price and 3000 to create (power level 2 x manifestor level 4). |
| risner09-27-06, 10:04 PM | What would be the pricing of a pair of Boots that let you use "Hustle" (XPH) 3/day??? Very similar to a +30' move item so make it a straight +30' move: 3*3*2,500 = 22,500 gp Boots If you want 3/day then make each activation last 1 minute and price it at 13,500 gp |
| joseccb09-27-06, 11:49 PM | If you want 3/day then make each activation last 1 minute and price it at 13,500 gp... Can this be done?? that cheap!? wow skirmish can be exploited with rapid shot and haste If a psychic warrior made em it would drop to 6000 market price and 3000 to create (power level 2 x manifestor level 4). Uhmmm, this sounds cheap too.. so with that pricing can it be activated just as the power: As a swift action??? |
| DarknessEternal09-28-06, 11:52 AM | ... Can this be done?? that cheap!? wow skirmish can be exploited with rapid shot and haste No, that guy doesn't know what Hustle does, as evidenced by his assertion that it has a duration. Uhmmm, this sounds cheap too.. so with that pricing can it be activated just as the power: As a swift action??? Not as a swift action, no. Activating wondrous items is a standard action. You can never use Boots of Hustle to gain any advantage aside from 2 move actions in the same turn. What you need is a Ring of Spell Storing and a Dorje of Hustle. |

Ok, I know woundrous items activate as standard action, but there are some exceptions like Boots of Haste, and Boots of Temporal Acceleration (not so sure about that one). However it is true indeed that Boots of Haste activate as a free action, so there must be a way to activate hustle as a swift action, isn't there???? |
| chucky09-28-06, 12:32 PM | As far as i know activating an item is a standard action. So no you cant have a quickend/hasty item as it would be a standard action to activate it even if it was quickend. Believe me ive tried to make them for epic chars before :( What you can do it put exp retreat on boots and set it for allways on user activated. Basically take a pair of boots orf striding and springing and drop the jumping and change the druid spell to a mage spell. I think the cost comes out to about (4k + how evil level of your gm). or 1x1x2000x2 its a first lvl spell cast as a 1st lvl caster with a duration in rounds for the x2 at the end. Of course this is RAW and is modified by the world your char is in. |
| risner09-28-06, 02:28 PM | No, that guy doesn't know what Hustle does, as evidenced by his assertion that it has a duration. No Hustle adds a move action. Adding 30' is similar to a move action I clearly knew what Hustle did. Basically take a pair of boots orf striding and springing and drop the jumping and change the druid spell to a mage spell. It certainly wouldn't be 1x1x2,000 (SLxCLx2,000) for that. It would be (speed/10)^2*2,500 ish, so ER with +30 would be as I described above. |
| Dire Celestial Bonobo09-28-06, 02:46 PM | What would be the pricing of a pair of Boots that let you use "Hustle" (XPH) 3/day??? The DMG suggests items should be priced based on their effect, with similar items and the equations being used as guidelines. Hustle is, arguably, pretty comparable to a round of Haste, both in terms of activity (extra movement/actions) and power (more attacks), so one might be tempted to say that Boots of Hustling -- 10 rounds/day, swift action -- would be worth about the same 12,000gp, or more like 6,000gp for 3/day. Using Hustle means you're probably using Psionics, though, which uses Move Actions for more things than the core rules -- I'm thinking of regaining Psionic Focus, here -- so that (plus the usability with Feint/Sneak Attack) would argue for more in the 10,000gp-15,000gp range for 3 daily uses. Basically, you need a price that elicits neither "wow, that cheap?!?" nor "who would ever buy that?" |
| Dire Celestial Bonobo09-28-06, 02:50 PM | If you want 3/day then make each activation last 1 minute and price it at 13,500 gp No Hustle adds a move action. Adding 30' is similar to a move action I clearly knew what Hustle did. I'm confused by what you meant by "each activation [lasts] 1 minute", then. Are you arguing that each activation gives a Move Action every round for 1 minute, or a Move Action that can be used any time in the next minute, or a Move Action that lasts for a minute, or something else entirely? |
| DarknessEternal09-28-06, 03:20 PM | No Hustle adds a move action. Adding 30' is similar to a move action I clearly knew what Hustle did. It's similar to a move action, but pretty damn far from what Hustle is actually used for. Adding 30' to someone's movement is not letting them make a full attack after they move, regain thier psionic focus, draw another weapon-like object, administer certain alchemical items, etc. He didn't want Boots of Fasterness, plenty of those already exist. |
| chucky09-28-06, 04:54 PM | Isnt there allready a pair of boots in the psionic d20 that do something like this? |
| xanadu09-28-06, 04:58 PM | Scrolls, wands, and spell completion items are standard actions to activate. I'd like to see are rule where a wondrous item is a standard activation because there are many items in which activation is a free action (the aforementioned boots of speed is one). |
| risner09-28-06, 05:51 PM | pretty far from what Hustle is actually used for. ... not letting them make a full attack after they move, regain thier psionic focus, draw another weapon-like object, administer certain alchemical items The prices everyone before me AND my prices would be too cheap for an item that does that. If he specifically wants "one additional move action", then the price would be more like: The price of a Rod of Quicken, Lesser (grants one Swift action casting per round) for a Boots of Hustle (grants one Swift action that can be used to perform a move action.) 3/day 35,000 gp I'd like to see are rule where a wondrous item is a standard activation DMG p213: If no activation method is suggested either in the magic item description or by the nature of the item, ... Activating a command word magic item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Unless stated otherwise, activating a use-activated magic item is either a standard action or not an action at all Edit: Added an answer to Xanadu's question |
| Grand Theft Otto09-28-06, 06:16 PM | No, that guy doesn't know what Hustle does, as evidenced by his assertion that it has a duration. Not as a swift action, no. Activating wondrous items is a standard action. You can never use Boots of Hustle to gain any advantage aside from 2 move actions in the same turn. I disagree. The power is a swift action to activate, and theres no official description to fall to. Its not unheard of for magic items to be activated as a swift or immediate action (see boots of haste). You should check with your DM in any case. |
| joseccb09-28-06, 09:39 PM | So there's no official guideline about activating items as a swift action?? uhmm... i should ask Cust Serv then, but would boots of speed be the only exception??? I bet there should be other swift action items?? Boots of Temporal Acceleration is a standard action to activate?? |
| risner09-29-06, 01:27 AM | So there's no official guideline about activating items as a swift action?? uhmm... i should ask Cust Serv then, but would boots of speed be the only exception??? I bet there should be other swift action items?? There are many of them. The section in the DMG about what type of action an item takes notes that the item may have alternate activations. The section on creating new items says you can make the activation whatever you wish (iirc) but you need to be aware that faster than normal activation should cost more. |
| chucky09-29-06, 08:21 AM | So you can make a pair of boots of quickend greater teleportation? So you can teleport and then do a full attack? |
| Fruscht09-29-06, 09:03 AM | So there's no official guideline about activating items as a swift action?? uhmm... i should ask Cust Serv then, but would boots of speed be the only exception??? I bet there should be other swift action items??There is one guideline in the DMG that you can place a quickened version of the spell inside an item (at higher cost due to increase in spell level), to allow it to be activated as a free action. Boots of speed are interesting. I think their base price is calculated like this: use-activated (click heels together, free action) at 10th level, spell is haste (3rd level). So, 10 x 3 x 2000 gp / 5, which equals 12000 gp. Obviously no quickened spell there. |
| Fruscht09-29-06, 09:04 AM | It would be (speed/10)^2*2,500 ish, so ER with +30 would be as I described above. Where did you find that speed based formula? Boots of Striding and springing seem to follow the formula 1 x 1 x 2000 (longstrider, constant effect). |
| Fruscht09-29-06, 09:08 AM | So you can make a pair of boots of quickend greater teleportation? So you can teleport and then do a full attack? Looking at Boots of speed, I would say you could. Click your heels as a free action to Teleport (Dimension door) to a location. Looking at all other items that involve Teleport/Dimension door, like Cape of the Mountebank, I would say you couldn't. |
| joseccb09-29-06, 09:12 AM | I think maybe Boots of Speed is the ONLY exception we have found?? Any other items that WotC might have created and have swift or free action activation?? |

| tarkin09-29-06, 11:02 AM | 1) It is possible to create an item that activates as a Free Action. 2) They tend to be MUCH more expensive than the standard ones. To the point where they are not worth it. Typically, you calculate price by building in a Quicken to the spell level (and requrieing a higher caster level to go with it.) |
