| cwslyclgh03-08-04, 10:48 PM | welcome to the 46th instalment of Magic Item of the Week. hope that you have been enjoying them this far, and that you will continue to do so. As always I want your feedback. Wes :) Boots of the Traveler These sturdy, well made, leather boots are a boon to any who travel long distances. When worn the boots, which often have the symbol of the god of roads impressed into their soles, make the wearer immune to all fatigue and exhaustion effects. Faint conjuration, Caster Level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, lesser restoration, Market Price: 9,000 gp. |
| Wizard03-08-04, 10:52 PM | Wow...I was expecting something like longstrider to be the main power of these boots. I like them. Very practical, actually. Perhaps I'll steal these for my druid... |
| Heron_Marked_Blade03-08-04, 11:00 PM | 9kgp for immunity to exhaustion and fatigue? Where can I find a pair? Waves of Fatigue/Exhaustion can be a killer if you're unprepared. I like these. |
| smrtgmp03-09-04, 12:46 AM | This is a good item. A useful effect at a reasonoble price. |
| BlackSmith03-09-04, 04:41 AM | 9k form immunity to at least 4 spells (7th level beeing the best)? now way. either crank the price up or change it to something like "...the wearer immune to all fatigue and exhaustion effects from traveling e.g. forced march." and please add longstrider and haste also for a possibility to make those boots. that sounds so universal/generic item that any (caster) class should be able to do it. |
| Seeker9503-09-04, 07:40 AM | Nice item. Perfect price. Lesser Restoration allows for *many* things, and this limits its power to only one facet. I wouldn't change a thing. (Do you have them in taupe, size 11? :P ) |
| cwslyclgh03-09-04, 03:09 PM | 9k form immunity to at least 4 spells (7th level beeing the best)? I do not see the incidental granting of immunity to 4 (relativly rare) highly specilized spells raising the price that much. |
| Harliquinn03-09-04, 04:21 PM | The only problem I see is with Barbarians'. This duplicates their 17th level ability (Tireless Rage). |
| Seeker9503-09-04, 07:31 PM | Originally posted by Harliquinn The only problem I see is with Barbarians'. This duplicates their 17th level ability (Tireless Rage). Not a problem at all. When the barbarian gets to 17th level, he can sell the boots, or give them to a companion who isn't a barbarian. :P |
| lanilifar03-09-04, 08:17 PM | You can wear these boots and sleep in full plate armor. You can rage and never worry again. I am pretty sure there are some other prestige class abilities which fatigue you, that these boots will now negate. Immunity to fatigue and exhaustion is more than I would ever allow. Why not the ability to recover faster instead? Or just specify only immunity to fatigue caused by traveling. |
| Ascian03-09-04, 11:30 PM | Great idea, but definitely underpriced. In Complete Warrior they show the Armor of the Unending Hunt, a set of +2 Mythral chainmail that confers the same fatigue/exhaustion negating ability, for 21,500gp. Subtracting the 4,000gp for being Mythral and the 4,000 for the +2 enhancement, and 300gp for the armor, that comes out to 13,200 for the ability alone. Good idea, though. I'll certainly look into getting a pair for my Dervish Barbarian, who struggles with fatigue and exhaustion all the time. |

| Ascian03-10-04, 12:32 AM | Can you cite a page number where it says that armour special abilities are 'secondary' abilities? I don't see how it could be such, since the price for a secondary ability is based on the more expensive ability. As the Hunt armour has no other ability.. I don't see how the fatigue/exhaustion negation could be 'secondary'. Please explain. Upon closer examination I *do* see that some armour abilities that do not directly come into play in combat (such as Slick and Silent Moves) do indeed have their costs multiplied 1.5 times, and would not be surprised if the cost of the ability on the Unending Hunt armour was similarly multiplied. I would, however, be surprised to see that a canonical book gave a price so low as the 8,800gp that would be the resultant base cost. |
| Gandilas03-10-04, 12:45 AM | Hello. I'd like to point out that Lesser Restoration (as the spell) doesn't cure Exhaustion in one cast, but takes 2 casts to remove it. Otherwise, doesn't seem overly powered as Lesser Restoration cast on a person already removed Fatigue AND cures 1d4 ability damage (which these boots don't do at all). I'd add Longstrider movement (+1) for another 1500/3000 though. |
| cwslyclgh03-10-04, 03:52 PM | I suppose if you eanted to weaken them a tiny bit you could say that it provides immunity to fatigue, and automatically upgrades exhaustion to fatigued the round after you are exhausted (meanig you would suffer the affects of exhaustion for 1 round). |
| Harliquinn03-11-04, 10:08 AM | A blanket immunity to fatigue and exhaustion is too 'big' to allow for such a small price. There are too many abilities and actions that are balanced by causing fatigue and exhaustion. If you wanted to limit them to fatigue/exhaustion caused by strenuous activity over extended periods of time (Similar to what the Endurance feat does) then that would be fine. But as myself and others have pointed out, this would be an absolute MUST have for anyone in heavy armor or barbarians. |
