okay, the name of my thread says it all. what should I price an injection (potion) of DR +1, +2, +3, +4, +5?

another appealing idea would be steroids, if anyone cares to discuss that.

What kind of duration are we talking about? What kind of DR (andimantine, magic, cold iron, /-, etc)?

Those would be major factors in determining price.

As far as steroids go, I would price them along the same line as a potion of bulls strength.

Mantle of Faith: This holy garment, worn over normal clothing, grants damage reduction 5/evil to the character wearing it.

Strong abjuration [good]; CL 20th; Craft Wondrous Item, stoneskin; Price 76,000 gp.

OK. Permanent Item vs potion is 2000 gp vs. 50.

So a potion granting DR 5/evil would cost: 1,900 gp and work for 90 minutes (minimal level to cast stoneskin. Of course, stoneskin is a 4th level spell so you need a Prestige Class that can make 4th level spells.

Using that as my basis, I would say that DR (Alignment) granting potions should be priced at
DR squared x 1.5 x 50 for a potion.
DR/metal is probably worth x 1.5 as well.
DR/magic is less powerfull, maybe DR squared x 1 x50.

DR/epic is more powerfull than that and could be priced at DR squared x 2 x 50.

DR/- is the most powerfull, probably
DR squared x 2.5 x 50.

Also note, all of these GRANT DR, they do not stack with other DR you already have, they overlap.

To Stack, I would probably double the price.

Well, thanks a bunch! Does anyone have anything to add about the idea of intravenous potions in general? like which potions would work best or worst with the injected idea? for example, firebreath makes less sense than bull's strength. And I'm kinda left in the dark about an acceptible duration for DR in general?

Well to be honest, injection or ingestion is just flavor text, as long as it takes a standard action to use they could be suppositories, fire-crackers, sutra-scrolls, pottery shards, or any number of objects that can be interacted with. A "potion" doesn't have to be a "potion" its just an abstraction.

Firebreath injection makes sense, if you inject it into your neck.

still running into price snag. what about DR/slashing, bludgeoning, or piercing, respectively? furthermore, injections are different. for example, who in the nine buys a potion of slay living with the intention of using it during combat? A needle, on the other hand, can be used to attack- virtually no damage, but with a spell :plotting: ... he he
