| NeoDX9002-21-07, 02:12 PM | Ok, so the flavor of the month in our group is the Book of Vile Darkness (we are doing an evil campaign). Some spells, though, have Undead or Fiend componentes. We can't figure out what that means. If we're missing something basic in the book I apologize, but we've seached a bit. Thanx |
| Romtos02-21-07, 02:18 PM | I'd search more than 'a bit'. I don't have the book here, but those components are described earlier in the book. :) |
| Puca02-21-07, 02:20 PM | There is a section at the beginning of the spells section that talks about special components. I recall some that required the caster to be addicted to a drug and others that the caster was afflicted with some disease. In this case, I believe that the caster needs to be a fiend or an undead to cast the spell. |

| NeoDX9002-21-07, 02:33 PM | sigh... I looked in various parts, including the beginning of the chapter, but not at the part the explains the spell descriptions (usually it's generic stuff). :embarrass oh well, thanks. |

The BoVD describes the special components right in Chapter 6: Magic. It comes just after the text list by level and caster type, and covers Corrupt, Demon, Devil, Disease, Drug, Fiend, Location, Sould, and Undead. Fiend means you have to be a fiend, Undead means you have to be undead. In the case of "fiend", IIRC the exact definition is "evil outsider from Baator or the Abyss". |
