Can someone explain to me how the authors of "Sword and Fist" came to 4000gp? I understand +2000 for a +1 weapon.....

and can someone show me how to price a "Bow of Hunters Mercy" ?
(I know I'm a munchkin and i can live with that)

thanks in advance

Here's what my math gives me (by the way, the cost fact of 1,500 is double the cost of "50 charges, spell trigger" from the table on page 285 of the DMG, and I used it to account for unlimited charges)...

True Strike
1 (spell level) x 1 (caster level) x 1,500 x 2 (secondary power in 3.0) = 3,000 + cost of +1 weapon = 5,000 gp.

However, keep in mind that, unlike a wand of true strike, the true strike function of this bow _only_ applies to the bow, whereas a wand would apply to whatever you want. That's no doubt at least part of the reason why the price of the function was lowered.

thanks so far.

so, as I see it the pricing for a bow of "Hunters Mercy" would be:

+2000 for a +1 weapon

+4500 for the "Hunters Mercy" (Magic of Faerun 1st lvl Ranger Spell) ability
(1(1st lvl spell)* 2(caster level of a 4th lvl ranger)* 1500(spelltrigger item unlimited use)* 1.5(for adding a second ability)=4500)

all this in 3.5 of course

so a +1 bow of hunters mercy would be: MW bow +6500gp ?

if not: please correct me, thanks

Well, using the armor abilities that apply a flat gold piece value as a guideline (their cost is increased by 50%), 4,500 would become 6,750. Remember though, if the hunter's mercy can only be used with the bow, and it can't just be used like a wand, it should get a discount.

Remember that the Bow of True Arrows functions like a wand is being used on the bow. That means a few things.

First, True Strike MUST be on your spell list, or you must have enough ranks in Use Magic Device.

Second, activating it takes a standard action. That essentially means that you spend your action this round activating your bow. On your first shot next round, you receive a +20.

The pricing for the Bow of Hunter's Mercy assumes the same things. That is, that'll be used by a ranger, and that it'll require a standard action to activate it.

I think thats already in the formula (the x1.5 for added ability)

example: silent moves is a +5 to move silently and costs +3750gp

thats 5^2 = 25*100gp*1.5 = 2500*1.5= 3750gp ;)

thanks

Actually, as written, you're formula here produces a funky result...

5^2 = 25*100gp*1.5 = 3,750*1.5= 5,625gp :D ;)
