I hate to ask this because I am probably going to shaft my character, but I like to stay honest about such things when I play...

A question came up about the effect Bracers of Armor have on touch AC. My impression is that they do not effect touch AC at all because of how the item is described...

"...just as though he were wearing armor."

However, with no definite answer, the group I play in has for now ruled that they do change touch AC because it is described within the same example as an "...invisible but tangible field of force..."

Could someone tell me where this might be explained in better detail in the books or detail how I should be playing it?

Thanks.

the do not change your normal touch ac... (neither does mage armor for that matter)... they will however protect against Incorporeal Touch attacks.

Bracers of Armor: These items appear to be wrist or arm guards. They surround the wearer with an invisible but tangible field of force, granting him an armor bonus of +1 to +8, just as though he were wearing armor. Both bracers must be worn for the magic to be effective.
Moderate conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, mage armor, creator’s caster level must be at least two times that of the bonus placed in the bracers; Price 1,000 gp (+1), 4,000 gp (+2), 9,000 gp (+3), 16,000 gp (+4), 25,000 gp (+5), 36,000 gp (+6), 49,000 gp (+7), 64,000 gp (+8);Weight 1 lb.

Sigh...

As I feared.

I did not know about the change to Incorporeal Touch AC either, thank you for mentioning that.

It is not a change from 3.0, the rule was the same there.

The problem is that Incorporeal attacks should NOT have been called Incoporeal Touch Attacks. They are very different from Touch attacks and putting that word in there confuses a lot of people.
