See post #10 for the item itself

I've seen bracers in one of the books (I think it was an FR book, but I'm not sure) that gave the wearer the benefits of the precise shot feat. Does anyone know what they are called and what book they are in? Thanks in advance.

I'll bet they are either in Magic of Faerun or in Arms & Equipment... I don't have my books here, so I can't check!

They're not bracers; it is a weapon enhancement. Magic of Faerun page 140: the Precise enhancement essentially grants the Precise Shot feat.

There is also the precise weapon enhancement in the Arms and Equipment Guide, but its not what I'm looking for. For some reason I thought I saw it on a pair of bracers, which would be far more useful to my telepath. That way it would help him fire his bow and be able to better hit with his ranged touch attack powers. Maybe the weapon enchancement is what I saw and my wishful thinking got the better of me. :(

Just ask your dm to allow you to make em up, nothings impossible in D&D ya know!

yes, i know. Thats the reason I've been playing for close to 20 years. Its just a lot easier to present a pre-made, WotC sanctioned item than it is to create one of my own form scratch.

I'll probably have to create my own item, but there is no guarantee the DM will allow it. Oh well, se la vi.

OK, since they dont seem to exist anywhere, I went ahead and made a pair of my own. I'd like to get a nice balanced price before presenting these to my DM, so any input on that would be much appreciatied (I'm looking at you, Seeker).

Bracers of Precision

These rune encrusted silver bracers are light as a feather and grant the wearer the benefits of the precise shot feat.

Minor Divination; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item; Craft Magic Arms and Armor; Truestrike; Cost: 24,000gp; Weight:-

I formulated the price based on the following logic: The precise weapon enhancement is a +1 price mod, which means a +1 bow of precision would cost 8000gp. I then doubled the price becuause it wasnt actually on a weapon (non-standard affinity and all that jazz), and then made it triple the original price due to the fact that it can be used with any ranged weapon. Does that seem fair?

That sounds fair to me. Looks kinda nifty too.

:b: I believe it to be to high. Remember a weapon is a slottless item, your bracers do take a slott. Slottless item costs double, so yours sounds better at 12,000.

Another way to look at it, but a slightly higher price, is use the Bonus squared method. Instead of removing the -4 penalty, make it a +4 competence bonus or insight when shooting in to melee. Same affect different name, but now if you want to you can increase the bonus.

Bracers of the marksman

When shooting at a target that is engaged melee you have a keen eye and a steady hand. While wearing both bracers you gain a +6 competence bonus when using a ranged attack in to melee.
Price 6x6x750=27,000. for a +4 set 4x4x750=12,000

If BSQx750 is to low for you just increase it alittle, maybe BSQx1000.

Hmmm...not a bad idea, but I dont want it to stack with the precise shot feat, since that would open up room for abuse. I agree that the price might be a little high, though. I put it at 24k because I figured it was better to start too high than too low.

Are you sure weapons are concidered slotless items? I thought the fact you actually had to wield them meant they were treated as slotted. After all, its not like you could use an infinited number of weapons at once, unlike ioun stones.

:b: To avoid the stacking abuse do one of two things. Make the feat a Prerequ for the item and state within the description that it does not stack with said feat. That or just state it doesn't stack, because the item replaces the benifit of precise shot.

As for weapons being slotted or not has been debated before and I'm not confiniced there slotted. Read BODY SLOT AFFINITIES and MAGIC ITEMS ON THE BODY neither list weapons in any way I can tell.

Just another way to look at the price. It you wanted an attack bonus to all attacks using insight or competence, the price I would be BSQx2500. Limit it to just range attack I'd go half that. Limit it again to just shooting in to melee and I would lower about a 1/3. So for me BSQx750 is just right.

 Weapons are not slotted OR unslotted. There is no "weapon" slot. Characters can use one weapon or two weapons, and monstrous characters with multiple arms can use as many weapons as they have arms if they desire. There's clearly no "weapon slot" on the body, at least not in the same sense that there are other item slots.

[Edit]
Oops, forgot what I was posting for. :P

I think that for bracers that grant a feat such as Precise Shot (which requires a prerequisite feat: Point Blank Shot), 24kgp is a very good price. This is a must-have item for any character that shoots arrows/throws darts/fires spells into melee. I'd think twice about paying 24,000gp for them, but I'd probably purchase them anyway (which, IMO, is a good indication that this item is balanced price-wise).

I know its a substantial chuck of change (one which I cant afford yet :(), but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I'm just glad my psion can wear a mithral chain shirt so I dont have to rely on bracers of armor.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. :) I think I'm going to stick with 24K and present the item to my DM as is.
