| kirsdarke11-13-04, 10:36 AM | i need a price for these... Bracers of Returning These bracers cause a thrown weapon to automatically appear back in the throwers hand with a flick of the wrist (a free action) |
| Heron_Marked_Blade11-13-04, 11:11 AM | Very expensive, since they basically grant the returning ability to any weapon you pick up. I'd probably start by making it the equivalent of a +5 enhancement and go from there. So minimum price would be 50,000gp. |
| TelinArtho11-14-04, 12:02 AM | Actually, I would probably reference other objects that simulate the enhancements to weapons. For instance, a Scabbard of Keen Edges bestows keen on a weapon for a duration of 70 minutes and can be used up to 3/day. These cost 15k (in case things have changed, I'm referencing 3.0). To make it a continuous thing - it would probably be significantly higher - at least 25k. Hope that helps /d |

But the scabbard of keen edges only works on a one-bladed edged weapon. You have to sheath it and draw it in order to gain the ability. I would also argue that the returning ability is worth more than the keen ability, particularly when you can pick up any weapon and apply the benefits to it. A better comparison would be bracers that apply the keen ability to any weapon you pick up. I would certainly charge at least 50,000gp for an item like that. |

Personally, I think Keen is a much better enhancement for the money in almost all cases. To adjust the price of an item from 3 uses a day to 5, you multiply the price by 5/3. An item with 5 uses per day is the same price as an item with unlimited uses per day. 15000x5/3=25000, so I'd say that price is a good estimate. As far as the activation limit on the scabbard of keen edges, that is because it is not a use activated item. Most items that are not use activated require a standard action to activate. So it should take a standard action to activate it. The multiplier for continuous activation is 2000 and for having to activate it with a standard action it is 1800. So if you want the bracers to function continuously, instead of having to activate them periodically, you should probably multiply the price by 2000/1800. That gives about 28000 gold for the final price. |
| smrtgmp11-14-04, 04:02 AM | There are actually a pair of gloves (I belive they are in the Magic of Faerun book, if not there than Player's Guide to Faerun) that treat all weapons wielded as if they possessed both the throwing and returning properties. Oh yeah, they cost a measly 10K. Concidering it would take at least 18k to have a throwing/returnig weapon (when you factor in the prerequisite enhancment bonus) I would say they are a steal. Granted, they take up your glove slot, but still... |
| Seyluun11-14-04, 02:51 PM | 10k??? Wow, especially if you consider the hundreds of thousands GP a Master Thrower usually spend on his weapons for this... |
