| Chernin11-12-04, 01:50 PM | These bracers grant 1 extra attack, + 6 AC (as Bracers of Armor) and the feat Improved Initiative Price 104.000 GP I want to create some variants of this item (e.g. more/less AC bonus...) but I am not sure about the costs of the single effects. + 6 AC (see bracers of Armor) = (bonus squared) 6 x 6 x 1.000 GP ==> 36.000 GP + 1 attack (as spell Haste) = (SL) 3 x (CL) 5 x 2.000 GP x (duration measured in rounds) 4 ==> 120.000 GP ????? so what???? ad hoc "haste-costs" / 2 (because only + 1 attack not the whole Haste-effect) ==> 60.000 GP + 1 attack = 60.000 GP + 6 AC = 36.000 GP x (Multiple different abilities) 1,5 = 54.000 GP ==> 104.000 GP .....and the bonus feat is just fluff text??? I would like to hear some other oppinions on this topic. Thanks! |
| calypso11-12-04, 02:00 PM | Woah. That's some serious voodoo ecomagic creation. First of all... granting Improved Initiative is NOT fluff text. That's one of the few feats that I almost always take. It's amazing. I would think a +4 to init would be worth 4x4x1000 gold = 16000. Secondly... a weapon of speed is a +4 enhancement. That is 32000 gp. It grants an extra attack with a specific weapon at your highest BAB. This item of yours can work for any weapon, so I would double it. Which is really close to in line with your 60k gp. And last, the +6 AC, meh. Whatever. So the price ends up: 1.5*60k+1.5*36000+16000 = 160k. Calypso |
| jaelis11-12-04, 02:26 PM | I thought Chernin was saying that his Bracers, as written, are in a book somewhere, and he's trying to figure out how they came up with the price. Evidently, the extra attack is worth 36000: Total cost = 36000 (AC bonus) +36000 (extra attack) x 1.5 (extra feature) +16000 (improved init) x 1.5 (extra feature) = 104000 Assuming calypso's calculation for improved init is correct, of course. jaelis |
| calypso11-12-04, 02:35 PM | Assuming calypso's calculation for improved init is correct, of course. I wouldn't assume that, were I you. :D Calypso |
| Heron_Marked_Blade11-12-04, 03:06 PM | Jaelis, your equation comes out at 114,000gp, unless my math is wrong [36,000 + (36,000 x 1.5) + (16,000 x 1.5)]. The Spell Penetration feat granted by the Robe of the Archmage comes out at 10,000gp. And since neither Spell Penetration or Improved Initiative have a prerequisite feat, I'd think Improved Initiative would be the same price. (Note that I think Imp. Init. is worth more than 10,000gp, but according to the Arms and Equipment Guide, most feats without a prerequisite cost 10kgp.) Bracers of Armor +6 = 36,000gp Improved Initiative = 15,000gp (10,000gp x 1.5 additional ability) Extra attack = [104,000 - 51,000 = 53,000 / 1.5 additional ability = 35,333gp] Hence we have the +6 armor bonus (36,000gp) + Improved Initiative (10,000gp x 1.5) + the extra attack (35,333gp x 1.5) for a total of 103,999.5gp, rounded up to 104,000gp. So how did they price the extra attack at 35,333gp? |
| jaelis11-12-04, 03:13 PM | Jaelis, your equation comes out at 114,000gp, unless my math is wrong [36,000 + (36,000 x 1.5) + (16,000 x 1.5)]. Heh, what's 10,000 gp between friends? But I agree, the salient question is where did the 35333 figure come from? Probably from the cost of a weapon of speed, and they didn't think through the advantage of having it apply to any weapon. |
| Chernin11-13-04, 10:12 AM | thank you all for your help so far Jaelis is right...I am trying to figure out how they came up with the price. I found a description of these bracers on another webside (see INDEX in my sig)..... The Bracers of Blinding Strike are found in the Magic of Faerûn book (p155). They grant: - +6 Armor bonus to AC - Gain Feat: Improved Initiative - Gain 1 extra attack each round at your highest bonus Price: 102.000 GP :embarrass :embarrass MoF is v3.0 (?)....perhaps this helps Can anybody tell me where to find a SRD v3.0? (perhaps it makes more sense with the v3.0 rules) |

| Heron_Marked_Blade11-13-04, 10:57 AM | Price: 102.000 GP :embarrass :embarrass That actually makes it easier. The formula looks like this now: Bracers of Armor +6 = 36,000gp Improved Initiative = 10,000gp x 1.5 additional ability Extra attack = 34,000gp x 1.5 additional ability Total = 102,000gp |
| Chernin11-13-04, 11:14 AM | in D&D v.3.0 + 6 AC = 36.000 GP + 1 Attack (as Speed-weapon) = 32.000 GP (in v3.0 speed is a +4 bonus) 36.000 GP + 32.000 GP x (Adding ability) 2 = 64.000 GP + 1.000 GP x (Adding ability) 2 = 2.000 GP (for the feat Improved Ini) ==> 102.000 GP The costs for the feat are too low (for v3.5) but for v.3.0..... I found bracers that grant the feat Improved Unarmed Strike for 1.310 GP(MoF p155). |
| Chernin11-15-04, 11:59 AM | my D&D v3.5 version: + 6 AC (as Bracers of Armor) 6 x 6 x 1.000 GP = 36.000 GP + 1 attack (as speed weapon) Speed: When making a full attack action, the wielder of a speed weapon may make one extra attack with it. The attack uses the wielder’s full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This benefit is not cumulative with similar effects, such as a haste spell.) Moderate transmutation; CL 7th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, haste; Price +3 bonus.speed is a +3 enhancement...that is 18.000 GP. This item can work for any weapon ==> ad hoc x 2 = 36.000 GP x (Multiple different abilities) 1,5 = 54.000 GP Improved Initiative 10.000 GP (see other posts) x (Multiple different abilities) 1,5 = 15.000 GP ==> 105.000 GP Thanks to calypso, jaelis, Heron_Marked_Blade and PhaedrusXY !!!!! :ayyyy!: |
