| mostholy204-12-06, 05:28 PM | The description for Brambles/spikes says that the attack bonus is an enhancement bonus, but the damage bonus doesn't specifically state that it is an enhancement bonus. ...It gains a +1 enhancement bonus on its attacks and deals an additional +1 point of damage per caster level (max +10)...If this is indeed the case, I would conclude that the damage bonus from the spell would stack with an existing enhancement damage bonus for a magical wooden weapon. Is this correct? |
| Darkxarth04-12-06, 06:24 PM | Um, I would say yes. A spell can occasionally stack with a magical weapon, and I'm a pretty lose-ruled DM. As long as you can prove why. But, most DMs probably would not allow it. Keen Edge doesn't stack with a Keen weapon. |
| mostholy204-12-06, 09:56 PM | Well reading of the brambles description (the relevant portion posted above), it seems that it is saying that the damage bonus is an unnamed bonus, while the attack bonus is an enhancement bonus. As unnamed bonuses stack with any other bonus, I would rule that it stacks. The only way a DM could rule against it stacking is if he interprets the reading of the spell as both the attack and damage bonuses from brambles/spikes are enhancement bonuses. I just don't believe that the spell is worded that way. |
| Jay_Ibero_91104-12-06, 10:58 PM | It specifically says both the attack and damage bonus are enhancement bonuses in the Spell Compendium. |
| SamiPeikko04-13-06, 08:37 AM | Yep, before Spell Compendium made that correction, even FAQ said that those damage bonuses stack with GMW and each other. +25 bonus to damage. I am glad they fixed it. |
| mostholy204-13-06, 10:22 AM | grrrr....Well that's another annoying example of updated spells in the Spell compendium which are different from the original source. How are we to know that spells have been changed without having to buy every new book that comes out? I don't have issue with them changing the spells to be more balanced, I just hate that I have to purchase the Spell Compendium to see these official changes. Is it too much to ask that they put in a new section to the errata of the original source so that things are consistent between their books? |
