Breath of Brine

Wiz/Sor 5, Clr (Evil) 5 (Water) 4, Dru 4
School: Conjuration (calling)
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: Standard
Range: 25 Feet/+ 5 Feet level (short)
Target: Single
Duration: 1 round/ 2 Levels
Saving Throw: Will Negates, See below
Spell Resistance: Yes/ Negates

"You feel a bit of confidence in seeing the caster fail to complete his magic, as you move to advance upon him, you are quickly stopped by an unsettling feeling, your lungs are filling with a cold fluid, and something larval throbbing, mustering enough strength to cough, you spew out a horrifying combination of cold rancid blood and still twitching prawns."

This insidious spell creates a small portal from unclean waters of the abyss within the targets lungs, it quickly fills them with rancid water and small fiendish shrimp and prawns. On a failed save the target makes a fortitude save every round (equal to spells DC) or begins drowning (See pg. 304 of the DMG), if successful he coughs up enough water to avoid drowning, but still takes damage from the prawns and shrimp crawling around inside them. The shrimp and prawns deal 1d10 damage a round, until the duration expires, further any failed fortitude save will render the victim nauseated (see page 301 of the DMG) for the remaining duration of the spell. Needless to say it is impossible to cast spells with a verbal component while under the effects of this spell. Finally exposure to the horrid magic has one final visceral effect, the unclean waters will bestow the Sea Sores disease unless the victim makes a Fortitude Save DC 14 (see Stormwrack pg. 12).

The material component for this spell is a vial of stagnant salt water filled with dead shrimp or prawns.

You are an evil, twisted [not nice person].

Congratulations.

You've got it as a Will save in the description.

Also, only the Sea Sores should be subject to spell resistance, if even that. You're not magically targeting the creature; you're just opening a portal inside its lungs.

... unless opening a portal inside one's lungs counts as having to beat spell resistance. But I don't think so.

Also, the spell is only [Evil] because it involves the River Styx. It is a distortion to say it has to do with [Water], though.

That's a Domain, not a Descriptor. Evil and Water descriptors sound appropriate, though. Incidentally, doing Anything inside a creature allows spell resistance. Otherwise you could summon *insert huge creature here* inside your enemy. It should probably be a Conjuration (Calling) effect as well.

Finally, you forgot that Styx Water erases memory. Level 8/7 would be appropriate.

Thank you

I was thinking of having the initial save fortitude, but will seemed to fit better to me, if feedback suggest otherwise though I will change it.

It is indeed evil because of the River, I had it in the water domain because the spell was intended to be used mostly by kuo tou, locaths and sauhugin (probably misspelled that) clerics in my game, though I won't limit it to just them.

I did indeed forget about that memory loss thing, but I could have sworn that was only immersion in the river, I'll double check that tonight.

Thank you both for your feedback.

I think you meant a vial of water. It could be a vial of vile water, but not a vile of vial water. :P

Water of the Styx erases memory. Remove the Styx references and then it will make more sense. Or something like that. Then, make an 7 or 8 level spell called Charon's Curse, or something, that does the same as this spell, but worse, with the memory loss part.

Alright Styx removed, but no cruelty.

The range is marked as both 30ft and Short. Short is defined as 25ft + 5ft/2 levels. Which do you mean?

I don't come up with spells very often so it's little things like this I make mistakes on, fixed.
