| Legdiwena10-19-07, 02:18 PM | Should count as 1/2 lvl as normal for crafting, DMG doesn't say it has to be lvl 1+ for potions does it? |
| Seeker9510-19-07, 02:39 PM | If someone wanted to make a potion of a zero level spell like "light" would it be possible?Yes and no. Yes, you can make potions from 0-level spells. No, you could not make a potion of light because light does not meet the criteria for using as a potion. Brew Potions (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/potionsAndOils.htm) Potions are like spells cast upon the imbiber. The character taking the potion doesn’t get to make any decisions about the effect —the caster who brewed the potion has already done so. The drinker of a potion is both the effective target and the caster of the effect (though the potion indicates the caster level, the drinker still controls the effect). Light (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/light.htm) Target: Object touched Note: Light could be turned into an oil. This is effectively the same thing, but rather than being consumed, it must be applied to an object. |

| Nephlite10-19-07, 02:52 PM | That would be considered wondrous items instead? Nope. Potions and oils are same feat, but different target. |
| maldron10-19-07, 04:06 PM | so for the same cost you can make an oil of "light" and then just sprinkle it on something and have the effect of that spell happen? Would this work with all "touch" spells? is there a larger explanation in one of the books on how to make potions and oils outside of the DMG? |

I think you have to apply the whole dose of oil and spread it etc to have effect. So, touch spells could work if the target is object or stationary. Touch attacks tho will never work. |
| 1 ton ghost10-20-07, 03:13 PM | nice loophole you've found. yeah, oil is under the aegis of Brew Potion, some ppl get those and "elixirs" confused. you've basically invented a splash flare. we employed them (Daylight) to horrific effect vs. drow and the like. that is, coated w/ bright shining daylight, means blind (1 rnd anyway), item retrieval to fetch water to wash it off draws an AoO, and so on. |
| groveborn10-21-07, 06:15 AM | You can't wash the effects of an oil off. It casts a spell when it's applied, then it's all used up. BTW, you may use an oil instead of a potion for most things too, you just need to rub yourself instead of drink it. Mmmmm. "Quick Feldar, rub the Oil of Feel Good on her belly!" |
