| Vaalingrade Ashland06-29-05, 03:24 PM | Hi all, I want to ressurect and expand on the 3e spell emotion. First order of buisness, though is does anyone have easier access to the 3e SRD than I do and can post the spell? |
| Zherog06-29-05, 03:38 PM | Here ya go, Vaal. Emotion Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 4 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Targets: All living creatures within a 15-ft. radius Duration: Concentration Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes This spell arouses a single emotion of the character's choice in the subjects. The character can choose any one of the following versions: Despair: The enchanted creatures suffer a –2 morale penalty to saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. Emotion (despair) dispels emotion (hope). Fear: The enchanted creatures flee from the character whenever they are in sight of the character. Emotion (fear) dispels emotion (rage). Friendship: The enchanted creatures react more positively toward others. Their attitude shifts to the next more favorable reaction (hostile to unfriendly, unfriendly to indifferent, indifferent to friendly, or friendly to helpful). Creatures involved in combat, however, continue to fight back normally. Emotion (friendship) dispels emotion (hate). Hate: The enchanted creatures react more negatively toward others. Their attitude shifts to the next less favorable reaction (helpful to friendly, friendly to indifferent, indifferent to unfriendly, or unfriendly to hostile). Emotion (hate) dispels emotion (friendship). Hope: The enchanted creatures gain a +2 morale bonus to saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. Emotion (hope) dispels emotion (despair). Rage: The enchanted creatures gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution scores, a +1 morale bonus on Will saves, and a –1 penalty to AC. They are compelled to fight heedless of danger. Emotion (rage) does not stack with barbarian rage or with itself. Emotion (rage) dispels emotion (fear). |
| krichaiushii06-29-05, 03:45 PM | Wasn't Emotion simply broken down into its component parts for 3.5? What pairs of emotion are you thinking of adding, either to Emotion as a whole, or as individual spells? BTW - Here (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/) is a good link to all the SRDs. |
| Zherog06-29-05, 03:48 PM | While that site is indeed a good one, krichaiushii, I couldn't use it. The stupid :censored: :censored: :censored: web filters here at work block it. :bored: And yes - emotion was broken down into six different spells in 3.5. It was a pretty big kick in the family jewels for sorcerers. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland06-29-05, 03:52 PM | Thanks Z, you're the man. As for what's going on: I want to bring Emotion as a single spell back (because frankly the whole point of splitting it up was because two people were still playing Sorcerers and Bards) and then adding higher and lower level versions, plus expanding on the emotions created. For example, hunger, thirst, extasy, boredom, curiosity, avarice and confidence Will become lower or higher level emotions. |
| krichaiushii06-29-05, 05:58 PM | I think that hunger and thirst are more physical than emotional - though one would likely experience some other emotions while hungry and thirsty. Here are some sites on emotion for you: Emotion list 1 (http://www.abwag.com/emotions.htm) Emotion list 2 (http://www.sff.net/people/julia.west/CALLIHOO/dtbb/emotions.htm) - the random generators linked to here are interesting, too. Emotion list 3 (http://www.deepermind.com/02clarty.htm) |
| smrtgmp06-29-05, 06:09 PM | I dont like what was done to the multifunction spells either. I say put them all back in one piece. |
| ShadowWarrior06-29-05, 07:48 PM | Emo IX Sor/Wiz 9 Enchantmet (mind-affecting) Range: Medium Target: One creature/level Duration: 1 min/level Effect: You can instill a single emotion in a target creature. You must choose an emotion from the following; despair, anger, joy, excitement, nervousness, greed, and lust. They will experience that emotion until the duration expires. edit: It seems that people absolutely need to be told how each emotion works in order to get the power of this spell. So I'm going to add a list stating how (almost) each emotion works mechanically. Despair: Target is unable to take any action and is considered prone and helpless. Anger: Target is filled with an all consuming anger and they begin to attack the closest object or creature to them. +6 circumstance bonus on attack rolls and a -6 circumstance penalty to AC. Joy: Target is incessantly cheerful gaining a +6 circumstance bonus on diplomacy checks while suffering(sp?) a -6 circumstance penalty on all bluff, forgery, and disguise checks. Excitement: Target is rendered extremely excitable and hyperactive gaining a +6 circumstance bonus on initiative checks while taking a -6 circumstance penalty on all concentration and autohypnosis checks. (replace autohypnosis with profession if not using psionics) Nervousness: Target has a complete nervous breakdown and is stricken with such dread that they are unable to take any action, even to defend themselves. The target is considered helpless for the duration. If they are attacked and survive (remember coup de grace), their condition reverts to panicked. Greed: The target is filled with such avarice that they are incapable of considering others needs and will try to take valuables from anyone they have the opportunity to. The target gains a +6 circumstance bonus on all bluff and sleight of hand checks while taking a -6 circumstance penalty on all diplomacy, hide, listen, move silently, sense motive, and spot checks. Lust: The target is filled with such lust that they act in a manner that is quite like an animal in heat. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland06-29-05, 07:57 PM | That's like... the weakest 9th level spell ever. I'm working on my Emotion spell line; Inspire Emotion right now. The basics: Inspire I (1st level Bard, 2nd level Sor/Wiz) - inspires base emotions , but does not force the target to act on them. For example, you can make them feel fear, but it has no numeric effect. Inspire II (3rd level Bard, 4th level Sor/Wiz) - Acts as Emotion with more modes Inspire III (5th level Bard, 6th level Sor/Wiz) - Each mode creates and extreme, longer lasting reaction to the emotion (hate becomes murderous intent, friendship becomes love, hunger becomes ravenous intent, dispair becomes depression) |

| CaoSlayer07-07-05, 12:11 PM | the thing that I really loved about the old emotions was the rage effect, since you could use it on enemy spellcasters for screwing them badly (Fear the raging old man with a staff charging at you!) and buffing your pals at once. also I miss the effect of the emotion: crushing despair from second edition, that caused the target to lose any hope in life, sitting in the ground wishing to die... would be a wonderful level 8-9 spell, like weird with the exception that you can use it to capture enemies and death ward or true sight dont stop it (althrought mind blank can counter it and also would say that heroism or hope spells protect the user or dispell it) |
| CaoSlayer07-07-05, 12:20 PM | umm, bard´s sorcerer ultimate spell in a pinch: Greater Crushing Dispear Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Brd 6, Sor/Wiz 8 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 30 ft. | cowdragon07-10-05, 09:06 PM | Yeah, they got Symbol, and they got Emotion too! For the most part I really enjoy 3.5. However, I really, really, really really dislike nerfing multifunction spells. It's the only hope a sorcerer has, and they tore it to peices. Grrr. The Cowdragon :mage: edit*completly lost the ability to spell certain words there for a minute... noticed it when I was quoted. :( |
| Nani?07-10-05, 11:12 PM | Yeah, they got Simbole, and they got Emotion too! For the most part I really enjoy 3.5. However, I really, really, really really dislike nerfing multifunction spells. It's the only hope a sorcerer has, and they tore it to peices. Grrr. The Cowdragon :mage: Agreed, speaking as player who used to shrink doors out of thier hinges back in the days of 2e. All the best, Nani? |
