| Karn Dragonsbane01-21-06, 10:15 AM | You know, I was thinking a small bit. About those things that plague my nightmares. And got more ideas. This is the beastliest, most broken spell ever. No one but a munchkin couldīve came with the idea. No one would ever allow it under any circumstance. Just seeing it, will make you tremble with fear, then explode bloodily. I donīt know how did I survive it. If you can, too, please PEACH. If you survive... use this only for your DM. (drum beat...) Candle of force Abjuration, Evocation [Force] Level: Sor/Wiz 6 Components: V, S, F. Casting time: 1 standard action. Range: Attended item. Duration: 1 round/2 levels or until expended. Saving Throw: Fort negates (object) Spell Resistance: None (object) By casting this indescriptable spell, the caster allows a single item to survive one attack in the most incredible way ever, no matter how strong it is. The itemīs properties are of no consequence- the spell is unbelievable. After casting this spell on its focus, the focus will not take damage from the next attack. Instead, all damage will rebound on its source. In the case of a spell, the damage is dealt to the caster. In the case of an unarmed strike, the damage is dealt to the attacker. In the case of an armed strike, the damage is dealt to the weapon. This spell can only block one such attack. Also, at 18th level, the spell becomes even more powerful. The caster may attempt to attack an incoming weapon to use the spellīs power on it. This is resolved as a sunder attempt, except for that no damage is dealt normally. Instead, the weaponīs damage is dealt back to the weapon. As a final benefit, even incoming missiles can be sundered. The typical AC for an arrow is 25 plus 1/+1 of enhancement bonus. Larger missiles might have a lower AC. Focus: The item to be used. |
| Crox01-21-06, 10:52 AM | May be I've missed something but ... Nothing broken I see. |
| Wilds01-21-06, 10:55 AM | That not broken by a long shot |
| Red_Decker01-21-06, 11:03 AM | So a 6th level spell that reflects attack and can be used to sunder at 18th level. The problem is? http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| rbrt_Spade01-21-06, 12:24 PM | Wish all the way if used with a novice dm. :D |
| Meloku01-21-06, 02:24 PM | Underwhelming? Casting time: 1 action (What Kind? Immediate? Free? Swift? Standard? Move? Full Round?) Range: Attended Item (Not Valid - Touch?) Target (Not Given): Probably "Touched Attended Item" Duration: 1 round/2 levels (Very Low) Saving Throw: Fortitude Negates (object) (What Object? The Target? Isn't that good for the target) Spell Resistance: Yes (object) (See above) <Words> All damage that would be dealt to the weilder of the object, or the object? Indominability is better. It lasts longer, and can target people, making them invincible until they would be brought under 1 hp. -Meloku |
| Seeker9501-21-06, 06:53 PM | Not broken. Just very poorly written. |
| Always-Late01-21-06, 08:44 PM | Out of curiosity, what if you cast it on two or three pieces of paper before engaging in combat. Any area affect spell cast on you will rebound on the caster several times over. |
| Max the Immortal01-21-06, 11:48 PM | The only this unusual I see in this spell is that it reflects an unlimited amount of damage. If it were to reflect x damage per caster level, it would be more consistent with most other protective spells. Force spells are at least almost always evocations, not abjurations |
| Red_Decker01-22-06, 01:22 AM | The only this unusual I see in this spell is that it reflects an unlimited amount of damage. If it were to reflect x damage per caster level, it would be more consistent with most other protective spells. Force spells are at least almost always evocations, not abjurations Shield is Abjuration, Mage Armor conjuration, most other force spells however are evocation. The Bigby's hand spell, force wall, magic missle all evocation. Due to the protective nature abjuration is fine. Force wall is virtually immune to damage which makes a certain amount of sense for this spell. It should have the same limits as force wall but it's fine. This is a good unstoppable force meants an unmoveable object spell. It's very limited basically only area effect spells will be reflected. Unless a sunder attempt happens in which case the weapon takes the damage or if the target is armor then it will see some use. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| JadeSpider964301-22-06, 01:49 AM | Not broken. Just very poorly written. VERY poorly written... And that's not broken, it's pathetic...for a 6th level spell, that's garbage. You want broken? *cough*quillblast*cough* |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-24-06, 08:22 AM | Nah, itīs SO broken. Smart use might allow you to devastate even the mightiest of beasts. Correctly used, itīs an OHKO without save. To balance it, I used a number of attacks instead of damage, as it is assumed that thereīs an edge to damage that can be dealt. Imagine you use this spell against a fighter who just rolled a critical with all power attack on his greatsword. He has now one weapon less. Against a monk... it might allow you to ignore one of his best blows, at the same time debilitating him for your next attacks. |
| Traevanon01-24-06, 09:42 AM | So this is a immediate action spell, to use in reaction to an attack that has already hit, rolled damage, made you fail a saving throw, and killed you from a save or die effect? If so then yes it is broken. The casting time needs to be better specified. |
| DarknessEternal01-24-06, 09:48 AM | Force spells are at least almost always evocations, not abjurations Orb of Force is a Conjuration. Yes, you summon a permanent orb of non-magical force. Don't ask me what that means, but you certainly aren't creating the force since it's not an Evokation. |
| Karn Dragonsbane01-24-06, 09:54 AM | OK, fixed. |
