Buffing magic missile to the extreme [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-22-07, 02:34 PM I want to hear the various ideas there on buffing this spell for use at high levels.

The usual combo is twin, empower, maximized (assuming u lessen the cost of one)

Would be interested in more ways of buffing this, like some way that could bypass a shield spell or similar deterrents.

06-22-07, 02:43 PM I can't remember which book (maybe a minitures book) which had the feat Transcend Spell. It was basically +7 levels to caster level and broke level boundries so you got a missile every level. That with twin spell worked for my Incantrix Character.

are you sure of the name? Its not in the consolidated list

06-22-07, 03:33 PM Allrighty, you want what I call Broken Magic Missile.

Start with Chain Missile. (Spell Compendium, 3rd level, up to 10 missiles.)
Twin it. +4 levels (lv 7 now)
Empower it. +2? (lv 9 now.)

That's probably as good as you'll get without reduction in metamagic feat costs. However....if you DO manage to get even a -1 from a class feature to all metamagic costs, then do this instead:
Chain Missile (lv 3)
Twin it (lv 6)
Empower it (lv 7)
Maximize it. (lv 9)

Now that's what I call Broken Magic Missile.

06-22-07, 06:45 PM Firstly I recomend Force Missile Mage From Dragon Mag. Secondly IIRC transend spell is in the ELH and only increases the damage cap by 20 dice. Even if it were not epic, magic missile does not qualify because it scales by missiles per 3 levels as opposed to dX per level. Last time i checked the best damage out of MM was using energy admixture, firey spell, twin, repeated, and maybe a few others with FMM, and Incantrix.
