I'm in the process of building a spell arsenal for an elven bladesinger character I'm designing. I was hoping you guys could help me put together a spellbook or two that would compliment the character.

Character Basics: Wizard Bladesinger 10 and Havoc Mage 1, total Caster Level of 16, Intelligence 24 (+7), specialized in the Battle Domain (as per Unearthed Arcana), no opposition schools, great BAB and saves, good to great fencer, +4 enhancement bonus on most of his important ability scores (including Intelligence and calculated into the number above). Not much in the way of metamagic feats, unfortunately, but I have enough cash to score one or two lesser metamagic rods if its worth it. That's one of the pitfalls of a gestalt game, never enough feats to cover both sides of the fence.

Available Sourcebooks: PHB, DMG, Complete Warrior, Complete Divine, Draconomicon, Miniature's Handbook, Unearthed Arcana. Not exactly a big list there, huh? :)

Special Considerations: As a Bladesinger the character can spontaneously Quicken one spell of 4th level or lower and one spell of 2nd level or lower each day, and as a Havoc Mage he can spend a full round action casting a single spell of 2nd level or lower and make a single melee attack at his highest BAB simultaneously. The Havoc Mage (from the MiniHB) class levels will be increasing in the future, allowing 4th and then 8th level spells to be used in the same manner, so I'm looking to keep that in mind as I build my list, too.

I'm looking for two types of spells in particular. Personal buffs and protections (like Mind Blank, Draconic Polymorph, and Greater Magic Weapon) and spells to use in combat. Utilitarian spells are actually a minor aspect of this character, but some standards are definitely going to be taken to round him out in the end. I want to focus on the combat and personal buffing aspects first and foremost, however, since that's the basis of the character.

So, any ideas of where to start?

I'll get back to you on spell selection, but since you have access to complete warrior, I would make the fighter side of the class combo be a swashbuckler. The ability to add you Int mod to your damage is great, especially with a ghestalt character like yours. Add in the blade singer's ability to add his Int mod to AC, and you're getting a lot of milage out of your Int.

I'm away from my books right now, but one thing I think will be very useful to a character of this sort are spells such as fire shield, that deal damage to opponents who strike you in melee. 1d6+15 cold or fire damage to your attacker each time you get hit is nice.

Also, how many spells of each level are you looking for? When I get back to my books, I'll try to put something together.
