| Femur Toothpick09-24-04, 10:57 AM | Our party is wanting our wizard to cast Create Magic Tattoo (PGtF) on us, but he currently has no ranks in any of the applicable craft skills. For the short-term, I was hoping there were some things we could do to bump up this one skill until he can take a few ranks at next level. Since craft is an untrained skill, all we need are ways to improve his bonous. Here's what we're working with: Intelligence bonus +5 MW painting tools +2 (circumstance) Heroism +2 (moral) Guidance +1 (competence) That's a +10 bonus so far, I'm looking for +14 for a DC of 15. A Luckstone would be nice, but is rather expensive at 20,000 gp. I also thought that there could be some kind of magic paintbrush out there (+5 bonus), or that we could get one made. I doubt our DM will allow that though. Any other ideas? |

He can cast the spell, provide the magic item construction, provide the guidance, and still rely upon a real craftworker to provide the skill. Just make sure the tattoo artist is really good. |

The only thing is that we are looking to use these tattoos every day, and I'd hate to have to drag a craftsman around with us while adventuring. This might just get us by for our next game though - and make sense from a role-playing standpoint as well. Our wizard has to learn the craft from someone. Here's our plan for tattoos. Rod of Lesser Extend + Pearl of Power 2 We will alternate days with the 48 hour duration to only use one casting of the spell each day, using the Pearl for the second casting. This will keep 4 or our 5 party members tattooed at all times, with minimal drain on our wizard. |

I don't know what kind of bonus, but +10 can't be that bad ... but ... If that same cleric can cast lvl 2 spells, have them cast Guidance of the Avatar (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20010504a) on you, so dump normal Guidance. With +20 on you, I'm sure you can make the check. |

It now gives a +5 to skills you have ranks in, but only 1/2 a rank in an untrained skill. So, not much help really. Guidance of the Avatar sounds promising though. We don't have a cleric, but our rogue maxed out his Use Magic Device. We can buy some scrolls or a wand for now. Thanks. |
