I was thinking Permanency with another spell. I found out, however, that with the experience cost, that is quite expensive, so I came across Polymorph Any Object. We are a low-level party and the thought of polymorphing my rogue into a Half-Celestial Pixie permanently (+5 animal, +2 mammal, +2 same size = 9 = permanent) sounds fun, but a bit broken, and only at a cost of 15 caster level x 80 = 1200gp. Am I missing something, or are DM's just supposed to not have that high level casters available for service purchase at this level, or are there expectedly casters that will dispel it? |

I don't recall the specifics of the DMG guidelines, but people able to cast 8th-level spells should only reliably show up in the largest of cities. So talk to your DM about this - I'm sure that some adventure in which you find a caster willing to do this could be concocted. Keep in mind that none of the polymorph line of spells permit you to turn into a templated creature, so the Half-Celestial part is out. |

Not as broken as you would think. First of all, you can't use PAO to take the form of templated creatures. PAO is based on Polymorph, which is based on Altered Self, which says " You cannot take the form of any creature with a template, even if that template doesn’t change the creature type or subtype. Second, following that same chain of inheritance, you don't get many pixie goodies. You do not gain any supernatural special attacks, special qualities, or spell-like abilities of the new form. Your creature type and subtype (if any) remain the same regardless of your new form. You're still a humanoid with no Greater Invis at will, spell-like abilities, damage reduction, spell resistance, or low-light vision. You do get the natural armor bonus and flight speed though, and your stats will change to reflect a typicall pixe: Str 5, Dex 18, Con 13, Int 10 (PAO affects your int score as well). Additionally, if you ever use polymorph or even alter self again, that spell will end, and you will return to your original form, not your pixie form. Actually, the PAO spell would still be in effect. Additional castings of other shape altering spells (or even another PAO) will not affect PAO original duration. |
