Calculating Spell Save DC [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-20-05, 08:18 PM I feel like an idiot. I am very forgetful and have not had to make a spellcaster in a rather long time, and I have forgotten how to calculate spell save DC. I have not the time to look through the PHB to find the answer, so if anyone can help me, I would really, really apriciate it.

03-20-05, 08:32 PM The basic formula is 10 plus the modifier for the spellcasting attribute plus the level of the spell in question.

For example, a wizard casts off of Intelligence. A wizard with a 16 Intelligence throwing a Sleep spell means the DC is 14.
10 base
3 Intelligence modifier
1 Spell Level 1st
---
14

Any other modifiers (such as Spell Focus) add on as well, of course.
