| Sargon05-26-05, 03:49 PM | I'm trying to figure out how much a ring that gave the constant effect of one spell and a command word use of another first level spell. The ring has a constant use of the 1st level spell drug resistance How much is this ring? Then how much would a ring with the same effect plus once per day allowed the user to cast extract drug (another first level spell) I tried ot figure it up myself using the table in the DMG but i failed :( |
| stamhaven05-26-05, 03:53 PM | What's the base duration on drug resistance (and is it personal)? |
| Sargon05-26-05, 04:16 PM | The duration for Drug Resistance is 1 hour per level. The target description says one living creature Range touch. I would assume you can touch yourself.. |

For example, a Ring of Mage Armor +4 does NOT cost 2,000 gp. However, the way to price it using that method is: 2,000 gp for the constant affect of a hourly duration spell +(2,000/5) * 1.5 = + 600 gp for the 1/day affect on the same item. For a total cost of 2,600 gp. |
| stamhaven05-26-05, 05:49 PM | The next question I have is how does the drug reistance work (is it a resistance bonus against alchemical poisons? what's the source book). I thought the price penalty for multiple different abilities on one item doesn't the *2 go to the more expinsive ability. (the multiple similar ability price factors I thought were for staffs) I get 2000*1(caster level)*1(spell level)*2(multi ability)+2000*0.2 (1 use per day)*1(caster level)*1(spell level) = 4,400gp Depending on the exact effect of the spell you may need to adjust it with a fudge factor to balance against similar effect items. The 1 use per day part is what I'm most skeptical of (generally asking for the discount of 1/day I only allow if it would in fact be useful to do multiple times a day). |
| Sargon05-26-05, 06:16 PM | Drug resistance : The creature is immune to the possibility of addition to drugs. Extract Drug is the once perday spell i wanted in the ring... The caster infuses a substance with energy and creates a magical version of a drug. The magical version manifests as greenish fumes that rise from the chosen focus the fumes must then be inhaled as a standard action within 1 round to get the drugs effects. Then it list some focuses for the spell diffrent materials producing diffrent drugs. |
| Sargon05-26-05, 06:24 PM | Note, the way you are doing it is backwards. You are supposed to price the power, and only if you can't price it, then use the spell level method that you are describing. For example, a Ring of Mage Armor +4 does NOT cost 2,000 gp. So how do i found the price power for a first level spell constant effect and a once a day first level spell both forged into a ring? |
| stamhaven05-26-05, 06:34 PM | I think he was sugestion pricing the effect not the spell first and if that fails then try pricing the spell using the charts. I can't think of a way that these effects fit in to any bonus price scheme so spell level makes sense as a starting point to me before applying the all important gut check. I've given my opinion on how to interpret those charts for what you describe but i don't know enough about drug options and bonuses to give it a gut check. Spell Effect Base Price Use-activated or continuous Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp2 Multiple different abilities Multiply higher item cost by 2 Charges per day Divide by (5 divided by charges per day) |
