Ok, so you are a lvl 5 druid.
Round 1 you cast flaming sphere
Round 2 you cast Call lightning and direct your flaming sphere
Round 3 and onwards you make sure a buddy is guarding you back while you orchestrate both lightning bolts and flaming sphere.

I think this is quite a nice tactic... Hit an opponent with a bolt as standard action and finish it with rolling the sphere over him as move equivalent action for a 5d6 max (and still a little under 2d6 if opponent gets both saves) :D

Effectively giving up all your movement in favor of a possible 5d6 every single round... would this be a good trade off?

Sounds like a very effective tactic, until someone gets in close enough to you to make calling lightning or rolling the sphere a slightly masochistic endeavor!

Don't forget that Call Lightning has a full-round casting time, so you can't direct your Flaming Sphere in Round 2 (no move-equivalent action left).

Other than that, it seems to be a good tactic for a not-so-high-level Druid with a good front-line party. It would be a good choice for a Druid in a party without a Wizard/Sorcerer, and a strong line of people in front of them.

If you have the time, wildshape into a bird and direct the fireworks from above or while hanging on the ceiling.

Nah, my DM finds natural spell a bit overpowered. Although I have chosen it now (lvl 6) I probably have to play it a bit careful. My DM thinks it is a silent spell, eschkew material and still spell at once. Will have to explain that I cannot cast spells in silence, cant cast spells without components and cannot cast spells while bound as well and hope he accepts ;)

Heres an interesting strategy if you:
While in Forest...

Your team is camping in a Forest:

You are Tree Shaped for the night and you are on guard.
You should have superior sight and a height advantage...plus you have no need for vision or whatever...you have some form of blindight or what not.

You see an opponent...
Round 1: Cast Call Lightning Storm
Round 2: Cast Flaming Sphere

When they reach the clearing, a flaming sphere awaits them at the camp fire and rolls towards them while a lightning blast KKKRAKKOOOMS down. Would they know to attack the tree?

My soc at level 4 used 2 flaming spheres all the time. The funny thing is even now I will still use my flaming shere with my energy subed fireball.

I really, really like the idea.

Err, that's it.
