| Zookeeper09-12-05, 05:23 PM | The 3rd lvl call lightning spell states that you may call 1 bolt of lightning per round as a standard action. The quicken spell feat states that you can cast a spell as a free action as long as the casting time is a full round or less. If you use the quicken spell to cast call lightning, can you then use the standard action to call 1 bolt, then substitute the move action for a second standard action and call a second bolt? That is the way someone in our group inturpruts it, can someone give me an opinion? I can see where he is coming from, but the description does state 1 bolt per round. Someone help, please. |

Further, you do not get to substitute standard actions for a move action. You can substitute a move action for a standard action (hence the ability to make a double move). |
| Zookeeper09-12-05, 07:17 PM | Thanks - That helps. Then what your saying is that with quicken spell you can cast (as example) 2 fireball spells - 1 as quickened and 1 standard and then move. I think that is too much, because you have to do v,s,m components which is movement. But thats just my opinion. |
| primemover00309-12-05, 07:23 PM | Well if you look at it that way zookeeper you can think of the Quicken feat as letting you do an abreviated version of all the componants. Having the spell suck up a slot 4 levels higher than the actual spell is compensation enough. Is a Quickened magic missle as good as a Cone of Cold? |
| feartheinvinceblehamster09-12-05, 07:41 PM | i agree that you can only do one a round. |

But if you forget about the quicken feat and just look at a spell then move. Part of most spells are somatic (precise movement) then you still get to move as well. That sounds like your getting a standard action and 2 move actions. (Verbal component is free action because you can talk anytime normally [granted you could be silenced in which case the spell won't work anyway] Material, or Focus would be part of the movement - pulling out the materials or holy symbols, dancing, singing, playing music, waving arms, etc.) But just my opinion. |

You can substitute a move action for a standard action (hence the ability to make a double move). You go that backwards there friend. You can substitute a standard for a move (like you said hence double move) but not a move for a standard (because otherwise you could get 2 attacks a round at your full BAB which is just beter then using iterative untill at least 11th level). |

A combo meal at McDonalds comes with friesand a drink. You can substitute onion rings for the fries, giving you onion rings and a drink. A turn comes with a standard action and a move action. You can substitute a move action for the standard action, giving you two move actions. |
