Does keeping Call Lightning require concentration? For example, if a Druid casts Call Lightning, then on a later turn a monster hits the Druid, does the Druid have to make a concentration check in order to keep the Call Lightning spell active and be able to send down another bold the Druid's next round?

No, unless the monster hits the Druid during the Druid's standard action of calling the bolt down, in which case the Druid would need to make a concentration check against a DC of 10 + damage dealt in order to successfully call the bolt down. This isn't a Duration: Concentration spell; the fact that the Druid can cast other spells during the 1 min/level duration of Call Lightning indicates that.

From the SRD

You need not call a bolt of lightning immediately; other actions, even spellcasting, can be performed.
So this means NO.
However, each round after the first you may use a standard action (concentrating on the spell) to call a bolt. You may call a total number of bolts equal to your caster level (maximum 10 bolts).

And this is only for flavor.

Ok - thanks to both!
:cookie: (I only have one - you'll have to split it :P )

We had a small rules argument last night about this, but we tenativly ruled it this way as well.

so the caster could cast another spell in the same round as calling a lightningbolt?

A quickened spell or the like. It is a standard action to call a bolt down, so there is only a move equivalent action left free for the Druid.
