Specifically, my question regards the spell Calm Emotions as in AD&D 3.5 (PHB page 207). In the spell description, it seems to say that the spell automatically supresses effects such as fear/rage within it's area - even if the respective players make their saving throw. For example, if a barbarian within the radius of the spell makes his saving throw, he can still attack as normal (if he had failed he wouldn't be able to attack) - but he still can't rage, even if he made his save? Is it just me or does that seem a little odd? If he was raging, and the spell were then cast on him, even if he makes his save, he loses the rage for the duration of the spell? If this is true, then a party contained within a Calm Emotions circle could make their saves and still be immune to dragon's fear (or any other fear), correct? Basically, to my mind, the first paragraph of the spell description details what will happen if someone fails their save against it; but the second paragraph happens whether the targets make their save or not. I think that I am reading the spell correctly, but I wanted to check. Thanks to all who read/respond and have a good day, all. |

So a barbarbian could easly rage inside the area of effect, if he makes his save. The spell is an enchantment that effects people..not the 'area'. It does not make a 'calm area'..it calms the people in the area. The spell only effects thoes that fail thier save. BT |
