| JulesCARV04-04-06, 06:07 PM | Let's say I have five hit dice, and a bit of insomnia. The party sorceror has a few spells left over, and knows Sleep. Can she cast it on me, and I just voluntarily be affected by it? |
| CryoSilver04-04-06, 06:09 PM | No, as you are not a valid target. You have the option to fail saves, but you may no more nbe the targetof Sleep is you have 5 HD than an aasimar could voluntarily be Charmed. |
| Seeker9504-05-06, 09:52 AM | You can, however, auto-fail your save versus suggestion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/suggestion.htm) to accomplish a good night's rest. |
| runestar04-05-06, 10:03 AM | Or just have the fighter whack you on the head with a club... :P |
| True Cavalier04-05-06, 04:26 PM | Since "hit dice" doesn't mean anything in character, I'd definetely allow it, with the reasoning behind being that creatures with 5 or more levels have too strong will to be affected by it, sure, but their high level is not a permanent magical shield that protects them from that spell, it's just that their mind is too strong to be bothered by it. If they *want* to be bothered by it, no problem :P It doesn't break the game, I guess. |
| tarkin04-05-06, 04:42 PM | You are proposing a voluntary lowering of defenses, similar to that used by SR. I could see it being allowed as not-abusive. Note, not all such limitations should be lowerable. People that are immune to magic, or immune to spells of <X level, etc. should not be allowed to lower their immunity and gain the benefits of a Cure Light Wounds. |
| Duration_10_Rounds04-05-06, 05:11 PM | I would say "no" as you cant voluntarily lower your metabolism or your bodies resiliance by just wanting to.....unless your some sort of mythical monk. E.g I had my wisdom teath removed and they had to shatter the lower ones to remove them.... They gave me a bucket of anesthetic...but they pricked my gums and it still hurt... so they gave me more... then some more... When they shatered the tooth the neves inside where still "awake" and it hurt like hell. While they where administering it I was thinking "Ohhhh pleeeeeaasssseee work!"..It didnt help a single bit. It wasn't like resisting general anisthetic to try and stay awake (like i did during the first operation i was ever put under, i was young and a bit paniced)... In the manner you would fight a Will save or centre yourself to weather a fort save... there simply wasnt enough in 4-5 times the amount they give most people to numb me... With a lot of booze (fort save) you can centre your self, make sure your get enough air and try to keep in a cool enviroment, have a full stomach, etc to lessen the ill effect. If some ones trying to bully/dominate/persuade you (Will save, lets say) you can dig your heels in, be stout of mind, etc to resist thier persausion. But sleep on some one of level 5+ is like trying to get drunk on half a shandy when your a 20 stone alchoholic.... there just isnt the potency there no matter how much you will it.... At least thats how i would justify a "No" responce from a roleplay point of view..... for story effect then sure i'll let anything that has zero lasting effect on game balance work. ..But chances are your trying to use it to circumvent a negative effect on a player or force some one at knife point to accept the sleep effect...or somthing to that effect... in which case the "No"still stands. |
