| Beware of Kobold03-24-07, 04:12 AM | that's my question, can a level 1 wizard for example copy a level 2 wizard spell into into his spellbook? If so, why, and if not why not? |
| runestar03-24-07, 06:24 AM | Sure, I don't see anything explicitly prohibiting it.:) |
| Seeker9503-24-07, 07:09 AM | Yes, he can. PHB page 178, under Arcane Magical Writings. It requires a spellcraft check based on the spell level. |
| Neutronium_Dragon03-24-07, 12:17 PM | He can, yes. If he can make the spellcraft check, a 1st level wizard can copy a 9th level spell into his spellbook. He can't actually prepare or cast it, however. |
| FrinkiacVII03-24-07, 04:23 PM | Copy it into his book, with a spellcraft check, yes. But you can't prepare it for casting until you get to the appropriate level to do so. Also, learning the spell takes time (I think they say it takes like 8 hours or something to try to learn one spell from a scroll, don't quote me). |
| Gadren03-24-07, 05:00 PM | Can a specialist copy a prohibited spell into his spellbook, even though he'll never be able to cast it? For example, he wants to document the spell to bring back to his wizard's college. (Or maybe he's an Ultimate Magus trying to cheese his Expanded Spell Knowledge class feature.) |
| Neutronium_Dragon03-24-07, 08:00 PM | No, since it has to be one you can learn. |
| Thiez03-24-07, 08:11 PM | And he can. He just can't cast it yet. |
| Neutronium_Dragon03-24-07, 08:15 PM | Not if it's from his prohibited school, he can't. |
| Thiez03-24-07, 08:16 PM | Oh crap, you're right, someone posted a new question, I was responding to the original OP. Sorry for not reading the topic. |
| runestar03-24-07, 10:52 PM | It would be useful for a specialist wizard who plans to enter the red wizard prc though, since he retains the ability to cast whatever spells he knew from his new prohibited school.:) So just learn every spell from said school, then ban it. |
