| Amurayi07-24-05, 07:09 PM | I was wondering about this quite some time now... Are clerics limited to what they can summon by alignment? |
| He Who Lurks07-24-05, 08:15 PM | Yes, they are limited. Summoning a creature with an alignment subtype counts as casting a spell with that alignment subtype descriptor, and so clerics are limited in what they can summon. |
| Seeker9507-24-05, 09:35 PM | Good Clerics cannot summon Evil (and vice versa) Lawful Clerics cannot summon Chaotic creatures (and vice versa) Neutral is free to do as s/he pleases except... Neutral clerics are restricted as above with respect to the alignment of their deity. |
| Salla07-24-05, 10:38 PM | Neutral clerics are restricted as above with respect to the alignment of their deity. If they have one. :D |
| Rulebook07-24-05, 10:41 PM | if you spontaneous cure spells, you're stuck with non-evil spells pretty much. |
| Odin_66607-25-05, 05:13 AM | if you spontaneous cure spells, you're stuck with non-evil spells pretty much. i don't think so (or can you show where it is written?) |
| Quijenoth07-25-05, 05:22 AM | From the SRD Spontaneous Casting: A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that the cleric did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not a domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name). An evil cleric (or a neutral cleric of an evil deity), can’t convert prepared spells to cure spells but can convert them to inflict spells (an inflict spell is one with “inflict” in its name). A cleric who is neither good nor evil and whose deity is neither good nor evil can convert spells to either cure spells or inflict spells (player’s choice). Once the player makes this choice, it cannot be reversed. This choice also determines whether the cleric turns or commands undead (see below). Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells: A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or his deity’s (if he has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaos, evil, good, and law descriptors in their spell descriptions. so what rulebook is saying is if you choose to spontaneously cast cure spells you or your deity must be good aligned (thus cannot cast evil spells). The exception is if you are neutral and your deity is neutral you could cast cure spells and turn undead but you still could cast evil spells without penalty. |
| RaspK FOG07-25-05, 09:52 AM | Which means that clerics of TN deities (or philosophies) get the best deal by far! :D |
| DarkWarriorKarg07-25-05, 10:09 AM | Setting-wise, that rule is suspended for Eberron. |
