Can clerics add metamagic on the fly? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Dear Forum:

Suppose I am a cleric and I have a metamagic feat like empower.

If I use my ability to spontaneously convert a spell into a cure spell of the same level, can I also spontaneously add a metamagic feat?

For example, could I sacrifice freedom of movement to cast empowered cure moderate wounds [yes, I know this is silly, but bear with me]? Or could I only sacrifice freedom of movement to cast cure critical wounds?

Thanks for any insight,

IIRC, that is possible. It would be subject to the normal spontaneous casting metamagic standard-action-to-full-round-action thingy.

Directly from the source:

Spontaneous Casting and Metamagic Feats

A cleric spontaneously casting a cure or inflict spell can cast a metamagic version of it instead. Extra time is also required in this case. Casting a 1-action metamagic spell spontaneously is a full-round action, and a spell with a longer casting time takes an extra full-round action to cast.
