Hello:

I know that the cantrip Ghost Sound can approximate noises of up to a certain volume (measured in humans) and that once set, the noise can't be changed. My question is, could it form words? For example, could it sound like 20 people all shouting "Begone!" ?

My gut reaction was no...A figment that includes audible effects cannot duplicate intelligible speech unless the spell description specifically says it can. If intelligible speech is possible, it must be in a language you can speak. If you try to duplicate a language you cannot speak, the image produces gibberish. However, ghost sound says:Thus, talking, singing, shouting, walking, marching, or running sounds can be created.I would rule that the "audible talking" must be no more than a sentence or two (a free action worth of speech), and will either be repeated throughout the duration of the spell, or can be heard only once amid the general murmur / din of sound.

It doesnt say it cannot do that, so I would allow it.

Thanks! My gut reaction was also no, and I kind of took the spell description to mean that talking could be duplicated, but you wouldn't be able to make out what they are saying. I'll have to think on it before Saturday's session to decide what I allow.
