Constructs are constructs. Not wondrous items.

And in general, no. Golems are mindless so they just obey orders.

A sword can be intelligent, so I can imagine, for example, an intelligent iron golem. (In fact my current character has one, although it wasn't supposed to be intelligent - well, it's DM magic I guess ;))

Yes, they can be intelligent.

There are in fact several published ways (See War Forged in Eberron) to make Golems intelligent, besides the standard Intelligent Item rules.

1.) Warfoged are living constructs, and are somewhat seperate in how they're judged.

2.) A thread very similar to this was up a little while back. A search should reveal it.

3.) My solution is to make an intellegent wonderous item and attach it to the golem. For example, you could create an illengent Feather Token, enbed it into the golem, then give the intellegent item control over the construct.

while they are creatures of the construct type, golems and most other constructs are magic items, created with an Item creation feat (Craft Construct)... there for you should beable to make them intelligent just like you would any other magic item.

SS also has a 9th level spell for awakening golems.

is a 9th level spell equivalent to the cost of making an intelligent item?

9th level says to me that its not something to be undertaken lightly, and only the most powerful arcane spellcasters can do it. intelligent items have a lower level but a material cost. so....?
