| BlaineTog10-29-03, 10:15 PM | Is there a spell or something that can forcibly change an enemy's alighnment? Mabye not the BBEG, but if we come up agaisnt a chaotic evil wizard, and (s)he fails their save, could I make him/her into a LG, making it impossible for him/her to attack us (as long as we don't attack first)? |
| ksbsnowowl10-29-03, 10:18 PM | There is a cursed item called the helm of opposite alignment, IIRC. It detects as a helm of teleportation or something like that. That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. Here you go, from the SRD:Helm of Opposite Alignment This metal hat looks like a typical helmet. When placed upon the head, however, its curse immediately takes effect (Will save negates DC 15). The alignment of the wearer is radically altered-good to evil, chaotic to lawful, neutral to some extreme commitment (LE, LG, CE, or CG)-to an alignment as different as possible from the former alignment. Alteration in alignment is mental as well as moral, and the individual changed by the magic thoroughly enjoys his or her new outlook. Only a wish or a miracle can restore former alignment, and the affected individual does not make any attempt to return to the former alignment. (In fact, the character views the prospect with horror and avoids it in any way possible.) If a character of a class with an alignment requirement is affected, an atonement spell is needed as well if the curse is to be obliterated. Note that this is a one-use item: once a helm of opposite alignment has functioned, it loses all magical properties. Caster Level: 12th; Prerequisites: Create Wondrous Item, creator must be 12th level; Market Price: 4,000 gp; Weight: 3 lb. |

| BlaineTog10-29-03, 10:42 PM | Like I said, it wasn't so much for the BBEG but for the small encounters. Cool helm! Now if only that curse could be put into an arrow or two... |
| RPG10-29-03, 11:08 PM | Ah, the good olf HoOA. Many years ago, back in 1e, I had a half-orc assassin who was cursed by this item, switching him to CG. After being told by other party members what had happened to him, he shruged chuckled and decided to keep the helm as a souvenir. Some time later, it dawned on my character that he could do a "whole lotta good" with that helm. So as often as possible, I took it with me on adventures and "converted" a great many BBEGs by sneaking up on the guy/gal (usually when they were about halfway through their You-will-all-suffer-the-fires-of-the-abyss-for-attempting-to-foil-my-master-plan diatribe) and poppong the helm on their pointy little heads. Whereupon they were suddenly made aware of the sheer ickyness of their grand schemes, and offered to right their wrongs, and occasionally, help us on our quests in the future. Eventually this tactic backfired on me when we mistook someone for the BBEG behind a slave running operation, who was infact a very high level LG wizard trying to break the ring himself... My character's last words were drowned out by roar of the meteor swarm that also wiped out half the party... :D |
| Zherog10-30-03, 12:04 AM | Back to the topic at hand.... I have (in the past) allowed my players to use Bestow Curse to change the alignment of somebody. The downside to this (that they haven't realized yet :smirk: ) is that it can be Dispelled. |

| Varthalon10-30-03, 06:53 AM | Symbol of Persuasion: Will save (-4) or they become your alignment AND are charmed for 1d20x10 minutes. Cast it, with Permanancy onto your a fighter's shield (perhaps under a hinged flap so it can be hidden or revealed at will) and have fun. |
| obidiah06-13-04, 03:44 AM | Aahh...I have a cleric that has cast Glyph of Warding on his robes, set to trigger the spell Bestow Curse. The Glyph is set to trigger on touch of any evil, intelligent humanoid. The result should be...though it has yet to happen...that any bad dude touching my cleric must save or be cursed with Change to Opposite Alignment. It is expensive in component materials to cast the Glyph, but my NG cleric thinks the price ok to pay to bring a being back from the "dark side" to the "light". There is a very funny consequence to this. One of the party is evil, with an evil familiar. I can't wait to see how this character handles being turned to Good, thence having to dispell own evil familiar. In fact, this whole thing is a response - without resorting to seeking character deaths - to the situation of discovering a seemingly innocous familiar is actually an evil imp. |
| smrtgmp06-13-04, 03:49 AM | There's a bard based PrC in the complete divine called the evengelist that can convert people to their alignment. |
