| Maribel04-13-06, 06:03 AM | The other day a mage cast 8 cubes of 10' in horizontal mode. The idea is levitate the entire party of the floor for that the warriors cannot move. 1-. I think that with Reverse Gravity the players can move in the 'new floor', because is a very very powerful spell with no Save that can kill a warrior easy vs a mage. 2-. Worse, other mage cast Silence in the area for that the mages cannot cast Dispel. 3-. Worse, worse. No all the creatures have levitate or fly for resist Reverse Gravity, so my party now cast this spell every time and kill the monsters at range. They have 3 mages so is easy that someone win the iniciative of the encounter. Is all ok?. Thanks. |
| Nausicaa04-13-06, 07:05 AM | Reverse Gravity only Reverses Gravity.. it rarely kills anyone, because the falling damage is often ridiculous °° It permits you to walk on the new floor and to act normally. |
| Radijs04-13-06, 07:45 AM | *what* new floor? Provided there is a ceiling within the reach of the spell. But if there is nothing but air you just hang there oscillating. |

| Maribel04-13-06, 07:57 AM | Is easy, a fighter is a round x level in the air, the mage only need cast fireball, lighting, desintegrate, etc... until he dead. For me is the most powerful spell of the book, (is only level 7), this spell can defeat a full party of mobs without fly. So i wait that the players/mobs can walk in the new floor. |
| Radijs04-13-06, 08:18 AM | The floor in this spell shares a large similarity with spoons. There is no spoon... |
| Kayerloth04-13-06, 08:32 AM | I assume what the OP is refering to Nausicaa is that it would "kill without falling" because (his worry) you are rendered quite vulnerable to attack while your ability to attack in return is seriously hampered as you are left suspended in the air unable to effectively move. Of course the solution is to not leave oneself so vulnerable to attack or be so vulnerable when held aloft ... Carry missile/ranged weapons and use spells in response. Smart opponents will, just like the party, learn what their weaknesses are and take steps to fill those holes. Party is using Silence then I use Silent spells or Spell-like abilities (note Gaseous Form has no V component, lets you fly and gives damage reduction as well). They can shoot at me then I make myself harder to see or hit ... Obscuring Mist, Acid Fog, Displacement, Invisibility, or even a Wall of (Force, Stone, Iron or Fire) between myself and them to name a very short list of options. Can't Fly then how about Teleport or Dimension Door or even Polymorph into something that can fly. High(er) level characters, and by default their opponents, can and typically are very mobile in all 3 dimensions (and probable a couple more ;) ) as well as a wide variety of environments. | ossik04-13-06, 02:07 PM | I don't have my book in front of me, but after our last campaign finished, I had an "arena duel" in a domed colosseum and fought some big ole' demon who summoned about 20 minions in the first round. If I remember right, you ~can~ move in reverse gravity, (there may be a movement penalty) because the duel included myself (wizard) and my fighter brother, who was waiting on the ground at the edge of the field for the minions to walk out of it & fall to the ground. He made a ready action to "catch" each one that fell with his warhammer.. heh. By the time the demon walked out of the field, I had already cast summon monster & had a 6000lb rhino ready to bull rush him ~back~ into it :D After he "fell" upwards again, the rhino promply jumped in after him and "fell" upwards right on top of the demon with the bad Reflex save... Nothing like ruining one of the DM's favorite baddies with three tons of fleshy rhino falling on him from 60'. |
| Seeker9504-13-06, 02:25 PM | Ossik, what you are "remembering right" is not the rule. It is what your DM let you get away with. You cannot "walk" within a reverse gravity field. If the reverse gravity has an area of effect sufficient to let you reach the ceiling, then yes... after you stand back up (since you just fell to the ceiling), you can walk to the edge, and fall back down to the floor. If you can fly, you're all set. |
| ossik04-13-06, 04:49 PM | That's what I said. The baddies reached the ceiling, all took their falling damage, stood up & walked upside down on the roof. As the left the gravity field they fell back down to us where they took more falling damage coupled with warhammer damage on a successful hit vs flatfooted AC. That seems pretty much within the rules of the spell to me. |
