If it doesn't specifically say there is a punishment for a Good or Neutral character using these enchantments, they're free for anybody that wants them. However, you might want to double check and make sure it doesn't say that using the items is [Evil] (which I doubt they are), just to make sure you aren't killing your alignment. Other than that, go for it. |

| Eldren12-10-03, 10:28 PM | For the most part, the weapon enchantments available in both the Book of Vile Darkness and the Book of Exalted Deeds are available to anyone who can afford to have them placed on an item, and who can find an item crafter willing to do it. Certain enchantments are inherently evil or good, and have the appropriate descriptor, but aside from those, I think it's just a matter of coincidence that some of those enchantments are placed in those books; I think it was a case of WotC saying "These are things we want to make available to the players, and this is the next book we have coming out, so throw them in there." I really can't see how "Enfeebling" (a +1 bonus enchantment from the Book of Exalted Deeds) is inherently good or evil, and I can't see how "Fleshgrinding" (a +2 enchantment from the Book of Vile Darkness) is inherently good or evil. Sure, it's kinda creepy, but isn't really "evil". So unless there's something specifically prohibiting you from it, you can, in general, use the weapon and armor enchantments from both of the Mature Readers rulebooks. |
