| High Octane10-25-04, 03:54 PM | I remember finding out that touch attack spells can critical, but can you apply sneak attack damage to them? I find that critical and sneak attack tend to work as a pair. |
| Palin the Wizard10-25-04, 03:57 PM | Anything that qualifies as an "attack" and has a to hit roll can deal sneak attack, as I recall. Do a search next time; I imagine stuff such as this crops up quite often. |
| High Octane10-25-04, 03:59 PM | I searched for the search option and I couldnt find it. (ironic no?) wait, doe the sneak attack apply to each ray? |
| IMarvinTPA10-25-04, 04:10 PM | Check out the "Rules of the Game" articles in the DnD main area on the WotC site. They did one about Sneak Attack a while ago. It basically said the same thing as Tome and Blood did. Spells can crit and deal sneak attack damage if they have an attack roll and are within 30 ft of the caster. Although we are debating the floating hand (forgot the spell's real name) spell. Since it delivers a Melee touch attack using a touching device and all Melee Touch attacks can deal sneak attack, can it sneak attack? It's clear about ranged touch attacks have to be within 30 feet of you. IMarv |
| cwslyclgh10-25-04, 04:28 PM | wait, doe the sneak attack apply to each ray?not if they are all part of the same action (such as scorching ray) if you cast a hypothetical spell that let you fire 1 ray around for a certian amount of time then yes you could sneak attack with all of them as long as the conditions for sneak attack applied (ie the opponet was with in 30 feet and was flat-footed, or otherwise denied his dex bonus to ac... not that just slike other ranged attack rays cannot let you help flank somebody). |
| gbnogkfs10-25-04, 04:31 PM | 1 to-hit roll = 1 attack = 1 sneak attack (if applicable) |
| Palin the Wizard10-25-04, 04:44 PM | I searched for the search option and I couldnt find it. (ironic no?) wait, doe the sneak attack apply to each ray? Check out the black bars at the top of your screen. ;) And no, it applies only to the first ray in each spell. |
| tarkin10-25-04, 05:19 PM | 1 hit != one attack Each spell can be used to Sneak Attack once, regardless of the number of rays the spells launched. The exception to that is if you are using your iterative attacks. I.E. You cast Chill Touch, then attack, each attack, using a seperate bab, gets sneak attack. |

To further emphasize what tarkin is saying spells that have a "volley" of attacks may only sneak attack once. Spells that require regular and interative attacks to execute as opposed to giving you a free volley of attacks such as his example chill touch, may each sneak attack because you are using regular attacks, not a volley. |
