| AlexanderHeppe03-08-04, 03:55 AM | Hi everyone, in my Friday Game, a fellow player of mine was hit by a Death Slaad and went to -5 HP, dying. He was the only one standing next to the Slaad, with the other players to far away to reach him and cast cure-spells on him. So one of the players summoned 3 Bears: It looked like this: XXXPX X: empty space (5x5 ft.) P: Priest XXXX3 3: Bear 3 XXXX2 2: Bear 2 XXXXX XXXX1 1: Bear 1 XXXSC S: Slaad C: Character(dying) Now, he instructed the Bears to do the following: Bear 1 picks up the character, takes 5-ft.-step and hands the character to Bear 2 - Bear 2 was to ready an action (hand character to next bear 3) in case he got handed the character - Bear 3 readies the action to drop character before priest, Priest heals character in next round I mean, itīs quite a nice idea, so after having stopped laughing (5 min.) I finally allowed it to work, but granted the Slaad an AAO against bear 1, which missed. I always let good ideas for spells run, but is this possible at all, concerning the official rules? I didnīt find anything against that... so I ask you, how would you have handled this? |
| Harmor03-08-04, 04:21 AM | Hmm...if you could make a DC 25 Handle Animal check to 'Fetch' your friend's body...I would allow it. |
| Wizard03-08-04, 05:25 AM | If it's summon monster, the friend would have to speak Celestial, or have some other way of communicating with the bears. |
| smrtgmp03-08-04, 05:39 AM | The summon monster spells say that you can give the creatures tasks other than combat, provided you can communicate with them. Therefor, if the caster had one of the various translation spells in effect, or spoke the native language of the creature summoned, I would think this would work. |
| FunkyTrip03-08-04, 07:13 AM | Those commands are way too complex for a bear to understand. A circus bear needs years of training to be able to fetch something. And you let normal bears pick up something, give it to each other so it's out of a slaad's reach? Good luck explaining it to them (Don't they have Int 1 or 2?) Heck, no idea how much time it takes to actually teach a smart dog this trick! |
| AlexanderHeppe03-08-04, 08:02 AM | mind that these were celestial bears, with the caster (a bard/wizard) being able to speak celestial - If he were a druid, I would have allowed this trick without any second thought, but I allowed it to work nevertheless, because I liked the idea... |
| Vorpal Warhammer03-08-04, 09:43 AM | Anything Celestial has an Int of at least 3. Anything with an Int of 3 knows at least one language (Common, if no other language is specifically stated). The Celestial template doesn't mention which language is learned. Thus, Celestial Bears understand Common. |
| Everach03-08-04, 09:43 AM | Originally posted by FunkyTrip Those commands are way too complex for a bear to understand. A circus bear needs years of training to be able to fetch something. A regular brown bear has Int 2. A celestial brown bear has Int 3. Int3 is no longer an animal. It understands celestial and can follow rudimentary commands without training. This sounds pretty reasonable, if bizarre. |
| FunkyTrip03-09-04, 03:55 AM | But still, INT 3 equalizes an extreme simpleton, maybe less. Maybe someone with the equivalent of a 2 year old child. Can you explain to a group of extreme simpletons in the height of combat what to do? Ok, it's just a game, so it's rulewise allowed with INT3 ;) |
| Arindor03-09-04, 10:04 AM | Wow! Reading this thread just gave me a vision of a paladin with the leadership feat chasing a fleeing villian having their 100+ followers standing in a line and taking five foot steps and passing them down the line. That's 500 ft of movement in 1 round! Sure would look wierd though and hard to explain how the guy running away gets past by this body surfing paladin. |
| The_Fan03-09-04, 10:59 AM | It's called the supersonic bucket brigade. In theory, a bucket at sea level would pass the speed of sound after being passed in this manner by 457 people. I havn't calculated the speed of light, but it's possible. |
