can't pick a 0-level spell to save my life... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm playing an Arcane Disciple (Dragon #311), and as part of the "Arcane to Divine" package, I can gain two 0-level Bard or Sorcerer spells as divine spells.

The first one's easy. Prestidigitation. Done.

But I can't pick another 0-level spell! They just...just...SUCK! All of them! :banghead:

Any advice?

Mage Hand. Or maybe Daze. Just pick 2 that seem mildly interesting, it's not like you'll use them for combat.

Ghost Sound is a personal favorite. Or Mending, for those nasty arrow-holes in your tunic after a battle. Or Message (to coordinate complex strategy.) Or Know Direction, if you plan to do a lot of wilderness trekking. Arcane Mark is great for any spellcaster wishing to leave his mark in the world.

You know that Ghost Sound has a verbal component, right? It's hard to create a distraction when you're shouting out magic words...

...unless YOU want to be the distraction.

:Edit: Of all the choices, Message seems best. Thanks.

I like Arcane Mark for roleplaying reasons.
Mainly its because I like to come up with symbols for my characters.

I'm pretty sure read magic is a must, unless you never plan to use a scroll.

Mage hand is always useful, arcane mark is a good spell for RPing and has some other uses, like marking a path or something similar, dancing lights is decent, and open/close can aid against ambushes or traps.

I'm pretty sure those are both already Cleric spells...

Dancing Lights is pretty valuable. The ability to send lights AHEAD of you, showing you your intended targets, instead of AROUND you, showing your attackers where you are, is pretty valuable.

As is Disrupt Undead (1d6 damage for a 0 level spell...)

I'll second Dancing Lights, a near-must for any light-dependent races.

I've seen Message put to pretty good use, too.

I love prestidigitation, but if you've only got two choices, you don't have a lot of wiggle room. You need spells you'll cast often and to great effect. That said, detect magic and read magic are both good spells to have. But if you must have a combat spell, daze is pretty good against early kobold/orc warriors. The stun is definitely underrated because it causes both a turn loss, the dropping of all held objects (weapons, etc), and loss of dex bonus (for a rogue sneak attack). Just dropping your weapon alone at such a low level is a major blow.

Seeing as not many people seem to be familiar with the class, I'll have to rephrase my question.

Arcane Disciples are Clerics who gain access to a small number of arcane spells, which they cast as if they were divine. I have access to all Cleric orisons, so I can already cast detect magic and read magic.

So I need to pick another cantrip, aside from prestidigitation.

Dancing Lights is gold if you get creative with it.
Want to look powerful/holy? Use the humanoid outline form of Dancing Lights, and center it on yourself. Boom, you're now glowing with a mystical light.
