I was hoping to forge an item that could emulate the One Ring of LOTR (say what you will). I have a list of abilities I think are relevant using the intelligent item rules, but I can't price it. My artificier with the Siberys mark of making should be able to pull it off, but I need to know how much it costs.

The One Ring
The Unique sections:
Constant Sympathy effect for all nine alignments
Constant Greater Invisibility effect on bearer

The intelligent item parts:
INT 19
WIS 10
CHA 19

Greater Powers:
Item can cause fear in enemies at will
Item can create magic circle against (opposing alignment) at will
Item creates wall of fire in a ring with the wielder at the center 1/day

Lesser Powers:
Item can use cure moderate wounds (2d8+3) on wielder 3/day
Item can use hold person on an enemy 3/day
Item can bless its allies 3/day
Item can use detect magic at will

Dedicated Purposes:
Defend the servants and interests of a specific diety (the keeper probably if you care)
Defend a particular race or kind of creature three times (orcs, evil outsiders, chaotic outsiders)
Defeat/slay divine spellcasters (including divine entities and servitors)

Purpose Powers:
Item can use true resurrection on wielder, once per month
Wielder gets +2 luck bonus on attacks, saves, and checks
Item can use phantasmal killer
Item can use mass inflict light wounds
Item can cast 15d6 greater shout 3/day

Ego:
36
Special:
Each round the ring where its mission is at stake the ring attempts to subvert the wearer with its Ego check. On a failed save you get an addition check each round for the next 1d6 rounds. If you fail all of them, the ring controls you for 12 hours and may impose one negative level as a immediate action when it sees fight forever afterward until you manage to get rid of it. Every time you are controlled for 12 hours it gets the ability to impose another level. When it has the ability to impose a number of levels equal to your HD it can kill you and you arise as a dread wraith.

What would you price it as?

What would you price it as?Unique Artifact aka Priceless aka you can't buy it no matter how powerfull you were. Oh,and you are missing something liek 30 other powers/abilities which were never elaborated in the books.

I would also add in the same quality as a ring of sustanence and perhaps regeneration.

Something that lets the user live much longer than they should.

It could grant the wearer bull strength as well if someone tries to take the ring.

It would probably also have some weak telepathic bond with whoever the item was created for.

Since in the film when it was used, attention was brought to the ring by the baddies.

Mithral chain shirt - 1250 GP
+2 goblinbane shorsword named Sting - 18310 GP
Backpack - 2 GP
30 days trail rations - 15 GP
Travelling to Mordor and saving all of middle Earth - Priceless

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else there's Gondorian Express.
Don't leave home without it.

From what I saw in the film, the one ring was essentially an artifact-level ring of invis. Where are all those auxillary powers coming from?

I don't get most of the powers either.
Most of the ring's magic is a lot more subtle.

Wouldn't the weapons of legacy mechanic fit well with it? Where the user can use more of its abilities based on the user's relative "power".

I'd say its definitely an artifact, and its purpose would be to get back to the original bearer of the ring (probably either Khyber or the Keeper). To destroy it, maybe you'd have to travel to the Demon Wastes and throw it into a specific volcano, or maybe a mountain in the Mror Holds.

There are three reasons to worry about a price:

1. To have a PC make the item.
2. To have a PC buy the item.
3. To have a PC sell the item.

I doubt any of the above really need apply in this case.

my level 21 artificier was hoping to make it. And the ring has alot of power on the forger and bearer. Its not that powerful to frodo, cause the intellegince of the ring won't use it's other powers, on sauron's hand it would and did previously.

Ok, lets see: a drop of Sauron's soul, a pinch of Mount Doom lava ... :)

Alrighty, the ring's powers got covered in an old thread, but here goes with what I can remember. The ring can communicate with the Eye of Mordor (Sauron?) when it's put on, the ring slows aging but twists features over time, it requires a Will save (add half your level) to not give in to desires for taking the ring; the save is reverse (subtract half your level instead) and cumulative (+1 every week) if you carry the ring (+2 cumulative if you've actually worn it that week).

You can see into the ethereal plane and be seen while invisible, and the ring influences others who wear the lesser rings while in its creator's possession. The ring has DR -/(birthplace or post-epic), and writing which appears when exposed to flames but the ring doesn't heat up.

When carried too long, your attitude towards others worsens step by step but doesn't reach hostile until someone threatens to take the ring (or already has).

Also if you fail the regular DCs by too much (10 or more?), then you become hostile. While the ring lays abondoned somewhere (or unused) for long years, it accumulates power from energy not spent on influence or invisibility. An unsuspecting sap who then finds the ring has to deal with a much higher DC. Time passage also allows the ring to silently call to passerby, with a stronger (yet subtle) urging as more time passes.

Summary of powers: invisibility, slows aging, delusion, "nudges" you into finding it, influences those not even wearing the ring, indestructibility, hidden words revealed by fire, long-distance bond with its true master.

The problem I see is that Sauron was a divine creature......and he invested something like 80% of his divine power into the ring. Even Epic characters are not divine and should not be creating major artifacts.

Plus the Ring only turned lesser folks invisible. If you had the power and will to properly wield it, you did not turn invisible.

calm down, this doesn't need to be the one ring.

Its my fancy "ring of the coolness"

What would your price it? I'm happy with the power selection.
