Weapon of Energy (savage species p.72)

I was wondering if it could also affect a natural weapon, because it is listed in the permanency section that affect yourself, a creature or an object (as appropriate) but in the spell description, the target is a weapon.

So I want to know if I can put this spell with permanency on the claws of my animal companion.

The version of Weapon of Energy in Spell Compendium states "one weapon" as target of the spell. In my opinion this implies that a natural weapon is not affected.

Fly_dragoon,

No (at least not the spell-compendium version) because the target is "one weapon". However, you can enchant a Monk's fist with it because unlike most natural weapons, a Monk's fist is considered to be both a manufactured and natural weapons for targeting purposes.

Does anyone know another way (beside greater magic fang), to increase the damage of the claws of my animal companion (permanently)?

Give them an amulet of Mighty fists.

(p.s. do NOT assume that the questionable arguement about monk's fists is accurate. That is a debated point. Yes, there is some core support to it, but there is also core support against it. Ask your DM.)

Questionable? It's specifically stated in the monk description in the PHB pg. 41:

A monk's unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons (such as the magic fang and magic weapon spells).

That spells it out pretty clearly to me. So unless you can show me somewhere else in the monk description (since this would be the primary source for the monk's abilities) that contradicts that, the case is closed.
