| Edward07-04-04, 08:04 PM | Can this item be created or is it truly an artifact I originally considered this item an artefact but am wondering wether you could craft it under the epic rules (they did say many artefacts could be duplicated but where still not considered artefacts). The axe of balance This is an orc double axe with each head being double sided creating 4 blades. The blades are each enchanted separately. The heads each are made of a different type of rock and include a short independent haft before joining to the main handle One end contains a +6 lawful blade of distance and returning a +6 chaotic blade of distance and returning (mica) The other contains a +6 unholy blade of distance and returning (onyx) a +6 holy blade of distance and returning The holy and chaotic blades are on the same side. When attacking you must choose which blade to attack with. If 2 weapon fighting you may the ether blade on each end but your off hand attacks are not with the same end as the primary attacks. If you direct every attack you can make against a single foe for the purpose of bypassing DR all attacks benefit from both alignments (eg your opponent has DR lawful AND good you have ITWF you make every primary attack with a lawful blade and every off hand attack with a good blade then you will penetrate his DR) When you impact an enemy with a blade that apposes its alignment it emits a shower of sparks informing you of that aspect of a creature’s alignment. Only an effect that would prevent an aligned weapon from working will prevent this display but it only works on a concerted attack. Any of the blades can be removed as a free action from the main haft in which case they work as hand axes. When thrown by a welder holding the haft they return to the haft not the welders hand. It is conservable that a blade may be lost to the haft. As long as at least there is one blade on each end it will function as an orc double axe. If there are one or 2 blades on a single end it functions as a battle axe. With no blades the haft can be welded as a club. It is magical but provides on combat bonus and is made out of basalt. This weapon (ether hole or in parts) confers the necessary proficiencies on any orcish druid that wealds it (and thus half orc druids) and will never count as a breach of a druids oath to weald. (in case it gets used in 3.0) If you attempt to weald it when not a druid you take 1 negative level for the haft and one for each blade. If you are not true neutral you take one for the haft and one for each blade that apposes your alignment. If you are an ex druid you take twice the number of negative levels, 3 times if you are a blighter or similar. (Thus a CE blighter that picks up this weapon is in a world of pain, 6 negative levels just for the haft) a paladin that pikes it up when it is missing its chaotic and good blades will take 5 negative levels. I think that was its full list of abilities. It was originally designed as a major artefact but could an epic druid duplicate it. Also any advice on stones for good and holy I may post the accompanied armour latter. Edward |

Instead, I would adjust the mechanics as follows: 1. Wielder must be true neutral. Any non-neutral aligned wilder gains one negative level for each step removed from neutral (with a completely non-neutral wielder gaining two negative levels). 2. Wielder can align the weapon as desired, including any combination of alignments, depending pon the opponent. This occurs as a free action, but can only be done once in any given round. The weapon remains so aligned until it is changed. Make the weapon whatever type you want, including an orc double axe if you like. Throw on the distance an returning aspect, and then make the enhancement bonuses as desired. I would still make it an artifact, simply because it sounds like it should be unique. Definitely a unique concept. |
| [GSV] Kirstar07-05-04, 03:28 AM | i would say NO lawful & chaotic on the same weapon. :( good & evil on the same weapon :( why not just make a new property that damages non NN creatures. + 1d6 or +5 damage for every alignment removed from NN so LG or CG or LE or CE take +2d6 / +10 damage I know you are after a weapon that can hurt almost everything but the damage reduction makes things fun. |
| BlackSmith07-05-04, 06:46 AM | well aint this a nice idea! as you can use only one of the both ends axes i would not count the +6 or distance or returning separetly (as they could be same power shared with both blades and you cant benefit but either at time) thus +6 distance and returning, lawful, chaotic = +14 = 392kgp +6 distance and returning, unholy, holy = +14 = 392kgp = 784kgp for that price i would grant only 30% discount for the only druids thing and it would contain the weapons form changing ability. so i would say something like 548,8kgp. |
| Edward07-05-04, 06:29 PM | But that doesn’t cover the fact that it can be used as 4 +6 aligned distance returning throwing axes (witch don’t return to your hand so you can use them all in successive rounds and can be drawn as a free action without quick draw). Or the free proficiency In fact as single weapons it doses not have a throwing enchantment so it is an improvised thrown weapon (although the range is extended and it will return to your hand). Maybe it couldn’t be crafted by mortal or even epic magic. Edward |
