| Case W.05-01-04, 11:38 AM | Last night my DM said the thought there was a weapon enhancement that allowed you to critical undead, but said it could've been some class ability too. I searched multiple source books last night and couldn't find a weapon enhancement that does this. Does it exist, and if so, what book is it in? Thanks, Case |
| ehrin05-01-04, 11:43 AM | to my knowledge, no you can't crit most undead. but someone will be along soon with far more knowledge to let you know for sure. |
| glenw7705-01-04, 11:54 AM | There is the Feat "Supernatrual Blow [General]" form Masters of the Wild that does d6 per die that should have occured during a critical against your choosen enemy. It has some other effects to, but you need favored enemies to get it |
| AlienFromBeyond05-01-04, 12:53 PM | You can critical them, it just doesn't do anything. No multiplication and such. This is important to remember, because things like Flaming Burst and Vorpal will still trigger. |
| glenw7705-01-04, 01:38 PM | Vorpal still has no effect on undead though, other than cutting their head off, but you are correct, Critical effects can still occur. |
| was_fired05-01-04, 01:52 PM | Vorpal does work to blind most undead along with removing their gaze attacks. In the case of vampires you can steal the head and fill it with garlic and holy water which also kills them. |
| glenw7705-01-04, 02:09 PM | Are you reading that from something official? If so please indicate the location. The Monster Manual does say that it is popular to put holy waffers (or their equivalent) in the mouth of a decapitated vampire head and implies that this will kill the vampire. It , but being undead you must still defeat the vampire. Garlic just repells them though Apparently Vampires are the exception. Thanks for pointing that out but it does not say exactly what happens when a vampire gets its head cut off though, it certainly is not destroyed, otherwise no nead for the waffers. It may not actually stop fighting until you put waffers in its mouth Vorpal states Some creatures, such as many aberrations and all oozes, have no heads. Others, such as golems and undead creatures other than vampires, are not affected by the loss of their heads. Not Affected would include not being blind and not being prevented from casting verbal spells. They might not be able to use potions that require imbibing (and yes, according to Sage Advice Undead can use potions). |
| Korhal IV05-01-04, 02:11 PM | Your DM may have been talking about Disruption weapons. That's the closest I can think of. |
| Jimmy P05-01-04, 02:47 PM | For vampires and the decapitation thing it depends which variety you want. The discworld vampire, if it's head is severed simply loses control of it's body until they two are brought together. The head will normally keep biting until the holy water is administered. |
| glenw7705-01-04, 04:17 PM | If its a diskworld vampire you may need to put a sock or lemon in its mouth too :) |
| Pathanus05-01-04, 10:38 PM | In one campaign I am a character in, the DM usually makes vamps die upon death, since killin them in near impossible if your DM has set up a lair as vamp friendly (mini holes to escape in gaseous form through). It is up to your DM to rule if "immune to criticals" means immune to crit disruption weapons, vorpal, bursts, etc... but the FAQ has some info on a situation like that or two (i think). You should ask you DM (unless he ruled agianst you and that's why you are posting here). Path |
| Case W.05-02-04, 01:11 AM | Originally posted by Pathanus You should ask you DM (unless he ruled agianst you and that's why you are posting here). Path Actually he recommeded that I see if I could find a weapon enhancement that would allow critical damage on undead. I looked in multiple books, but couldn't find anything on it, so I posted here for some expert advice. |
| Pathanus05-02-04, 04:45 PM | I don't recall any weapon enhancement in official D&D books, but there may be one from another publisher (like Mongoose, Green Ronin, etc.), but I don't have those books to reference. Path |
