After a quick glance in the Monster Manual, I discovered that couatls are sorcerers who can choose spells from the sorcerer list, the cleric list, and a few domains. Can you customize your couatl, or are you limited to the default spells known in the Monster Manual. I was thinking of summoning a couatl loaded with healing spells; at the cost of one 9th level slot, I get lots of healing spells. Now, sacrificing a 9th level spell slot just to heal people might not be very good in high level combat, but think of the roleplaying potential of summoning such a healer; you could heal lots of people for free, without even using a cleric! |

To me, thats pretty fine for a lv9 spell, you can summon way stronger things with that spell anyway...Why not some healing/buffing critter? I personally use a different style of summon magic, you require to know the creature you are going to summon, and the creature has to agree to be summoned by you beforehand (like a verbal contract). |

You could even offer to make the spell list for your DM (to save him the effort). |
