Don't ask us.
Ask your DM.

(But my answer is no.)

Even the lowest of myconids has near-human intelligence. Toss in their plant traits, and that's a very useful and powerful familiar. I'd call it an Improved Familiar, probably with some other house-ruled feat tying the caster's magic to nature as a prerequisite.

Better yet, why not a cohort? They'd be a little lower level than the leadership score would otherwise indicate, but it'd be more appropriate.

Druids don't have familiars to correct all of you.

Druids don't have familiars to correct all of you.While this is a true statement; and
the original post mentions that the guy has an idea for a gnome druid;
the thread question is "Can you have a myconid familiar as a 1st level WIZ"

So, your statement is barely relevant.
Your correction is misplaced. :P
