| scottaeb1303-12-06, 11:48 PM | Do the bonuses of Gloves of Dexterity +6 and a Belt of Dexterity +6 stack? Or are you limited to one because both items do the same thing? |
| The Simbul03-12-06, 11:59 PM | you can wear as any items as you want, the bonuses however will not stack if they are of the same type. In the core rulebooks, the only examples of magical bonuses that you can apply to an ability score are enhancement bonuses (such as from gloves of dexterity), or an inherent bonus (which is a permanent bonus gained from wish spells or reading magic tomes). If the Belt of Dexterity is just another version of Gloves of Dexterity, but with a different item slot, then the bonus will not stack, because the bonus type is the same (enhancement). |
| scottaeb1303-13-06, 12:13 AM | I figured that. Thank you |
| Khelvaster03-13-06, 12:33 AM | Just make the belt a belt of holy speed and have it give +6 sacred bonus to dex... |
| scottaeb1303-13-06, 12:58 AM | In what book do you find Holy Speed? |
| Osedox03-13-06, 01:06 AM | In what book do you find Holy Speed? It isnt in any book, but look in the back of the DMG for the pricing guidelines. There it has examples of other bonuses (such as Profane, Insight, Sacred, & Luck) that can be used for saving throws. I couldn't see it becoming too game breaking to allow you to have an ability boosting item with a sacred bonus (this is what Khelvaster was talking about). Run it by your DM to see what he thinks. |
| The Simbul03-13-06, 01:21 AM | In the section on estimating item gp values, it only lists "enhancement" as the type of bonus that can be used to boost an actual ability score. The footnotes that allow for other types of bonuses (luck, insight, sacred, profane, etc) are only placed on AC and Save bonuses. IMO, allowing actual ability scores to be boosted by multiple items using multiple bonus types is broken, since a bonus to an actual ability score is in reality a bonus to many many different things at once. Boosting your DEX increases your AC, Initiative, Reflex Saving Throws, attack rolls with ranged weapons, attack rolls with weapon finesse, as well as all Balance, Escape Artist, Hide, Move Silently, Open Lock, Ride, Sleight of Hand, Tumble, and Use Rope checks. That is why I imagine they only list one bonus type for magic items that boost ability scores, whereas smaller individualized "scores" (like AC, saves, skill checks, etc) have a greater range of bonus types potentially available. |
| Osedox03-13-06, 01:30 AM | good point, Simbul i didnt think of it that way, however i would still allow it, although at a much higher price. |
