Lafarallin 09-04-06, 02:51 PM	A question came up last night in our campaign. Someone cast an antimagic field around themselves. The spell lasts 10 minutes/level. The question was..can the caster drop the spell whenever he feels like it? In this example the wizard casts the spell gaining initiative on everyone else. Everyone else burns spells and such and is unable to cast. Now the wizard notices friends arrive....can he now drop the spell or does it last for the duration now?
Paxar 09-04-06, 03:09 PM	The duration line of the spell description says "Duration: 10 min./level (D)" The (D) means dismissible (see PHB pg. 176). This means that he can, indeed, drop the spell whenever he wants as a standard action (unless the spell takes concentration, which this spell doesn't).
