Yes, it is a powerful item for a one shot. 8400gp for 4 hours of 2 levels of extra power(unless I misread it. I don't have my book with me). Most references to it I have seen on these boards consider it BROKEN! With that in mind, how much do you think it should cost? I really don't know myself, since I never play clerics.:D

I really don't know myself, since I never play clerics.:DIt's powerful, but at higher levels (15+) such things are to be expected. Conversely, using it at lower levels can definitely eat into your wealth (and one-shot items are effectively a permanent drain).

This means that players tend to do careful planning around this (which can be part of the fun) or avoid it entirely.

Another problem with it is keeping it lit during combat. It's not like you can shove it into bag of holding or something, because it needs to be active and within 30' (i.e. on the same plane).

Clerics usually aren't that powerful anyway, and this isn't as bad as say, a bead of karma (unless you are in a short campaign... where one-shot items tend to get used like popcorn).

You think that is good? Gate in a a monster to cast spells on the party like buffs saving spells in addition to the effect you stated.

I agree. I can see them being used for that big showdown with the BBEG, but personally, I would rather spend the 8400 gp on a periapt of wisdom +2, Cloak of Charisma +2, and a Quaal's Tree Feather Token:cool:
