| Chrono Nexus11-30-06, 07:15 PM | Does polymorphing into a carrion crawler grant their paralyzing tentacle attacks? The ability is Ex, so I'm pretty sure they do, but I'm double checking to make sure. |
| Thomar_of_Uointer11-30-06, 09:11 PM | Yep, it's an extraordinary special attack. |
| Chrono Nexus11-30-06, 09:34 PM | Yep, it's an extraordinary special attack. Thanks.. I think I know what the party barbarian is transforming into next session. The fact that the dc is con based just adds to the fun.:D |
| Kimokeo11-30-06, 09:37 PM | Take a look at the spider eater- the paralyzation lasts a lot longer. Con 21 |
| Chrono Nexus11-30-06, 09:58 PM | Take a look at the spider eater- the paralyzation lasts a lot longer. Con 21 I did- but they don't get 8 attacks a round either. The barb's rage and high BAB ensure most of those tentacle attacks get through- and once an enemy is paralyzed, it's game over for them. |
| runestar11-30-06, 10:07 PM | Better hope the enemy is not sporting a freedom of movement...;) How is your barb accessing polymorph anyways? Ring of spell storing? |
| jaelis11-30-06, 10:30 PM | The mage can cast it on him, easy enough. |
| Kimokeo11-30-06, 10:54 PM | I agree the CC has 8 attacks compared to the Spider Eater's one. The Con is 14 for the CC. If your mage has a higher Con, 16 or better, or hitpoints just went down. The Spider Eater has a Con of 21. That usually increases your hitpoints. Both have lousy AC's. CC=17 and SE=14 The SE can fly. The CC can crawl. The 21 Strength of the SE provides a better 'to hit' than the CC's 14 NOTE: 8 attacks is a full round action. Are you going to get in close with a mage's hitpoints? The DC is 20% less as a CC (DC 13 compared to DC 17). You get one shot before you take another round for the full round action. A CC is greatly feared for it's tentacles. You become a prime target compared to other foes. Paralysis 2-4 rounds compared to 1d8+5 weeks. |
| TheCobra11-30-06, 11:01 PM | The Spider Eater's paralysis doesn't happen until a minute after you hit. That can be a problem. |

The mage is better suited casting spells that assist the entire party in combat, such as slow. Secondly, the creature only need be paralyzed for a few rounds. CDG's can handle the rest. |
| runestar12-01-06, 05:37 AM | The mage can cast it on him, easy enough. :embarrass My bad, for some reason, I thought that it was a personal range spell...:embarrass Must have confused it with alter self. |
| Kimokeo12-01-06, 09:12 AM | Thanks for pointing out the minute delay for the secondary damage. I also didn't realize there is a second saving throw. I have to re-think my strategy with my Spider Eater. I still like the long duration of paralyze, though. Have to discuss with the group about poisioning and running away for several rounds. Gotta use Tongues to tell the opponent they are going to be paralyzed for quite a while. If I die, you will soon be lying around for something to come along and EAT YOU. Spells may dispell with my death, the poison does not... If you poison someone multiple times, does that create multiple saving throws at the end of the minute. So you're casting it on the barbarian. That takes him out of combat for damage in exchange for paralyzing. To dismiss the spell, you need to touch him since there is a verbal component and it costs the mage a standard action to dismiss it. I guess the mage is following the barbarian around to touch him. A raging carrion crawler - that has got to be a sight to see.:D It would be nasty for the DM to charm the carrion crawling Barbarian. |
