| Sayit01-15-07, 05:41 PM | Hey, I got a question. If i'm a Level 9 Wizard, Level 1 Sorcerer, and a Level 10 Dragon Disciple, would my caster level be 9, or 10? Also, if I were to take feats such as Practiced Spellcaster, would i be able to cast spells as a level 13 Wizard, and a level 5 sorcerer? And, would I also be able to cast spells spontaneously, because of the dip in sorcerer? Sorry for asking so many questions :D |
| Tenebrous_Sage01-15-07, 05:56 PM | You're joking, right? Anyway, you would have CL of 9 for Wizard and 1 for Sorcerer. You have to take practiced spellcaster separately for each class that you want to benefit from it. With practiced spellcaster for both classes would net you a caster level of 13 for wizard and 5 for sorcerer. This caster level bonus doesn't apply to spells per day or spells known. So you would have the spell slots of a 9th level wizard and the spell slots/spells known of a 1st level sorcerer +the bonus spells known from Dragon Disciple. You do realize that this character would be completely crippled, incapable of pulling his own weight much less adding anything to the party. |
| leather_book_wizard01-15-07, 05:59 PM | Aye, Tenebrous Sage is correct. |
| Fireclave01-15-07, 06:10 PM | Also, you would only be able to cast your Sorcerer spells spontaneously, not your Wizard spells. Your Wizard and Sorcerer spells known and spells per day are tracked separately as well, so you can't cast a Sorcerer spell with a Wizard spell slot, and vice versa. |
| thenotoriousJIM01-15-07, 08:10 PM | from wizard you have scribe scroll, so you could copy your sorc spells into scrolls and then decifer them into your wizard spellbook to gain extra spells into your book (level one only and you lose xp). |
| Haida01-15-07, 08:33 PM | This character sounds like a dragon snack. You'll be playing in an epic-level campaign with a 9th level wizard? My suggestion is to make 20th level wizard. But yeah, you'll cast memorized spells as a 9th level wizard, a couple worthless spontaneous spells as a 1st level sorceror, and get the abilities of a 10th level dragon shaman. But that's not all, you'll also take major XP penalties every level for that one level of sorceror that does you absolutely no good. You don't even get two familiars. |
| Sayit01-15-07, 08:50 PM | Heh, not what i expected to hear. What i wanted to do in the first place is make a Sorcerer with a high cha, and realized that dragon disciple gave +4 cha at the tenth level, so I thought ill take wizard levels for the bonus metamagic feats, and the 1 level sorcerer dip so i can meet the requirements for dragon disciple. |

Dragon Disciples only give +2 Charisma at level 10 and, as noted above, they do not increase spellcasting. They're a melee prestige class with poorly conceived requirements. |

If it's the Forgotten Realms use Star Elf as your race they get +2 Cha -2 Con instead of the normal elf modifiers. Spellscales from Dragon Magic get a +2 to Cha and have draconic flavor (if that's what you're looking for). Do anything, but don't take Dragon Disciple for a primary caster. I would highly recommend picking a casting class and sticking with it, but if you have your heart set on taking both wizard and sorcerer look at the Ultimate Magus PrC from Complete Mage, at least with that you won't be completely ineffective. |
| sigma99901-15-07, 10:48 PM | You do realize that this character would be completely crippled, incapable of pulling his own weight much less adding anything to the party. Untrue! He can reap the rewards of over 3 prestige classes that advance 2 caster types at once, like Mystic Theurge, Ultimate Magus, & friends. Take Practiced Spellcaster once for each seperate class, and you're looking at a potential Favored Soul/Sorcerer/Wizard/Psion with PrCs for every 2.... My advice is to keep at it and work towards that Wizard/Sorcerer PrC from the PHB2 or Complete Mage (which was it?) and you can probably pull your own weight at L20 casting as if you were Wizard 11 / Sorcerer 12 (from 8 levels in the appropriate PrC) and tack on 5 levels of DD. Even tho Dragon Disciple's not a very good class for casters, you might be able to slap together a warrior-mage build with it. |

Sorry for asking so many questions :DHe could benefit from Ultimate Magus (if you'd call it that at this point). Due to the levels in Dragon Disciple his sorcerer CL will still be crippled beyond all repair (11 at level 30) and his Wizard caster level is nothing worth bragging about. He won't be able to over come SR pretty much at all, and he won't be seeing 9th level spells until he's well into epic levels, which means no epic spellcasting either. He's pretty much screwed. I don't know why you think being able to branch into three types of magic would make any of this better though. His caster level would still be atrocious, and he still wouldn't be getting 9th level spells until well into epic. |
