Caster level for Item creation Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

Something I couldnt find anywhere in my searching in the DMG 3.0 or 3.5 was a clarification of caster level towards item creation if you have (2) or more types of casting classes (not counting prestige classes ofcourse).

This is for a Bard/Wizard 2/5. I want to make a long sword which has a caster level of 7 applied to it. I have the requirements if the two classes combine for total caster level. However, I know that they dont combine for magic missile or casting from wizard spells I know.

Am I right in saying that this character is a caster level 7 when it comes to creating items?

Please give me a reference for this too as I need to convince my DM. He couldnt find it either.

Thanks in advance.

Caster level is only the level in a specific class.
Clr 5 / Wiz 2 has a Cleric CL of 5 and a Wizard CL of 2.

In your example, you are NOT CL7.

As for a reference: The definition of Caster Level in the PHB Glossary, page 305.
