I am a newbie to playing a Wizard, and I have two quick questions on how some of my stuff interacts with the Polymorph Spell:

1. Mage Armor--Does the +4(+6 for greater) AC still apply? It has nothing to do with any of my gear. This is a spell effect, and I really don't see any reason(besides game balance) I shouldn't be keeping this.

2. Animated Shield +3--I carry an Animated Shield +3. If I set this thing loose before I cast the spell, it technically isn't a piece of gear I'm "carrying". Does the shield still fly around and protect me after I polymorph?

Yes and yes.

Even gear you are carrying doesn't disappear unless it becomes impossible for your character to use it (i.e. if you're wearing gloves and you turn into something without hands).

The only real exception is when you are no longer a valid target for a spell effect, such as charm PERSON, or hold PERSON, or some other such.

Stays. Remember: it is a buff spell not gear.

Whatever form you are should still be able to benefit so stays.
